He threw for 3521 yards and 49 touchdowns for a Newbury Park team that won a CIF-SS championship. He also ran for 435 yards with 11 touchdowns.
Smigiel was committed to Florida State but decommitted in January. He recently took an unofficial visit to South Carolina and attended Junior Day at Washington.
He is the first player from California in Michigan’s 2026 recruiting class and the first quarterback.
