About Avery

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I’m a competitive, high-effort receiver known for strong, reliable hands and precise route running. I take pride in making tough catches, finishing plays, and doing whatever the team needs including contributing on hands team. I play physical and bring energy every snap. Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I’m disciplined and team-first. I stay focused on development in the offseason and during the season, and I hold myself to a high standard. I let my work ethic and consistency speak for me.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I’m a senior leader in my church youth group, where I mentor younger members and help lead activities and service projects. I’m also a WR for Kalamazoo's Black team with Legacy MI 7v7, which allows me to compete year-round and continue improving.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve developed leadership and accountability through football, serving as a senior youth leader at my church, and refereeing youth football. Mentoring others and officiating games has helped me build confidence, take responsibility, and handle pressure. Year-round training has strengthened my discipline and team-first mindset.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I started tackle football later than most and was younger and smaller early in high school. Instead of seeing that as a setback, I used it as motivation. It taught me grit, discipline, and how to outwork opponents to earn my opportunities

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college where I can continue to grow as a player and a person while competing at a high level. Being relatively close to family in Michigan would be a plus, but I’m open to any program that offers strong competition, development, and a good fit academically and culturally.

About a month ago, I got an email from a parent who said Avery had an unreal performance at a 7 on 7. A quick once over of his tape showed extremely high upside. I want to see his measurables, his athleticism/testing numbers, and will be watching what his strengths and weaknesses are. Great upside for Olson, and he could really set himself apart at this event.
