Roney is an old-school style of defensive back. He’s physical at the line and can put a receiver out of the play entirely. He’s a great tackler with great technique. He can line up at the line and drop into any style of coverage. He has good positional awareness and does a great job of taking away space for his matchup to utilize. The Chaminade Julienne defense should be a top unit in the state, and I see Amar’e being a big part of why.

I was first turned onto Cornerback Amar’e by his position coach at Chaminade Julienne, Vayante Copeland. The former Michigan State starting cornerback knows a little bit about playing the position. When I turned on the film I was not disappointed. Roney is a fun watch. Roney is a versatile corner who’s an impact maker in both the pass and run game. In coverage the sophomore is technician in press man coverage. He does a great job of getting hands on the receiver and even has the strength to run him out of bounds. He also has the feet, hips on a swivel, and ability to run to stay in the hip pocket of the receiver. As he continues to get bigger and stronger, I think he’ll really start to bully receivers at the line of scrimmage with a strong punch. In the run game Amar’e love to come up and stick people. I’d be really surprised if he didn’t start to get D1 attention this offseason and I’m really excited about his future.

Roney is a physical defensive back who can stop a wide receiver at the line of scrimmage. Roney was great with his hands and had good alignment pre-snap. He did good when getting deeper down the field, and his athleticism helped him rebound when slightly behind. Roney will look to contribute to what will be a good defensive unit at Chaminade Julienne in 2025, and I am excited to see what he can do go forward.

Roney is a fun watch on film. He has a versatile skillset as a cornerback. Playing press man coverage, he’s physical at the point of attack and plays with heavy hands. On one play in his film, he jams the receiver and then drives him all the way out of bounds. Amar’e is also comfortable playing and covering in space. In the run game he loves to come up and stick the runner. He is a form tackler who has the ability to make the big hit. I’d expect that Roney will start to garner a lot of recruiting attention starting this offseason.
