Maier is one of the top linebackers across the Bay Area, and is a plus athlete with elite cover abilities and is a true banger in the box that closes quickly and is a very good open field tackler behind the line. He shows a quick trigger, can take on blockers near the LOS with violent hands and does a nice job setting the edge on the perimeter. Heading into the Fall, he will be one of the top players across the loaded WCAL and is looking to be another steal at the position as we near national signing day later this year. He currently holds one offer from Portland State and should draw plenty of other Big Sky interest through his final season for the Padres.

Maier is one of the more under-recruited defenders across all of Northern California and has the ideal length, closing speed and cover abilities for the next level. He is a very active inside linebacker that has a quick trigger, is a sure tackler in the open field and takes good angles while violent at the POA. He is a high IQ kid that can quickly process and diagnose plays, sniff out screens/draws and is strong at the POA when getting off blocks and taking on bigger ball carriers. In coverage, he is smooth in transition and shows disciplined eyes in zone coverage while able to close on ball carriers and is seemingly always around the ball. Collecting his first offer from Portland State last week, their should be no shortage of other Big Sky schools coming in and making a move on the talented backer.
