The state leader in passing yards and touchdowns has been electrifying all season. Beckman has 1,795 yards,  17 touchdowns, 9 interceptions all with a passer rating of 127.2. He seems to always know where he’s going with the ball and continues to fit throws into very tight windows with exceptional accuracy. He has an arm that allows him to be proficient in the short, intermediate and deep game but also is smart enough to recognize where his check-downs are.  When you watch this film you can see he has the IQ to be a very efficient leader and player under center. Ever since the season started Beckman has kept his statistical lead and hasn’t looked back since. Look for the senior to make a final push to put crazy numbers towards ends of the season and possibly even make a push for his team to make the playoffs.

I’m writing about Beckman for a third week in a row. One, he deserves it based on his play. Two, I’m trying to wake up some more college coaches. This kid can help you. The first two times I watched him this year, he faced a limited amount of pressure. That changed in this one, with Pleasant Valley allowing him very little time for surveying the field. His ability to make quick decisions checked another box for me. He showed excellent feel and awareness in an unstable pocket, still keeping his eyes downfield and finding open receivers. He finished the night completing 28 of 49 passes for 518 yards and five touchdowns against two interceptions. His strong play kept the Lightning within striking distance most of the night.

Beckman shook off an up-and-down Week 1 in losing at Iowa City West with a bounce-back performance against another rival Friday night. The senior was efficient, completing 26 of 32 passes for 269 yards and three touchdowns. For the season, he’s completing 64.6 percent of his passes for 554 yards and five touchdowns against four interceptions. He’s added 85 yards and a score rushing. Liberty’s offense works best with him throwing the ball, but he keeps defenses honest with his running ability. He extends plays with his legs and excels in RPO. Beckman delivers smart throws with a strong arm.

Beckman broke out last season as the Lightning enjoyed the best season in their brief existence. He experienced an up-and-down night in the opener, throwing for 257 yards and two scores but also tossing four interceptions. One of them was a Pick-6. Beckman will bounce back. It should be noted that he rushed for a game-high 78 yards here, too. He stresses defenses with an ability to burn them with his arm or legs, sometimes on the same play.

Iowa’s #2 QB in the 2024 class has one of the most convincing next-level touch balls I have evaluated in the State of Iowa in this class. Graham’s ability to thread the needle on all three levels of the field with advanced precision and mobility shed highly in my eyes with this QB prospect out of Iowa City Liberty. Another skillset I loved about Graham’s tape is when he uses his mobility to get out of the pocket, he still shows off enhanced poise through his progressions and excellent footwork to not take anything off his stellar arm strength and accuracy. I also like Graham’s instinctive athletic ability when the pressure caves in, as his awareness and fluid burst get him out of trouble within a quick nick of time. My gut is telling me that this young man is going to have a stellar summer at prospect camps.

It was my second time watching Beckman play this season. I’ve been very impressed both times. The first-year starter is polished. In read-option, he has a good feel for holding the mesh until he processes read and makes good decisions. When he runs, he shows nice vision and is tough to tackle. Throwing is his best trait. He can make all of the throws, displaying accuracy deep and the arm strength to throw ball into tight windows. Beckman should be receiving more attention from colleges.
