This year in particular I see the Big Sky cleaning up, and grabbing three kids who I could potentially see playing pro ball someday (Whipple, Schwake, Musgrave). Have a look at 10 Oregon athletes who I think will do well as they move on.
2021
Nate Rawlins-Kibonge Nate Rawlins-Kibonge 6'7" | 255 lbs | DL Jefferson | 2021 State OR 6-6 250 DE 21’ Jefferson HS- (Committed: Oklahoma) I think it will be a shock going from the PIL to the Big 12, but Nate is an incredible athlete and a very intelligent kid, who I believe will adapt quickly to the nation’s top competition. If he is solely focused on football, and not hoops or other sports, he should thrive in the Sooners system.
Holden Whipple Holden Whipple 6'4" | 285 lbs | OL West Salem | 2021 State OR 6-5 285 T 21’ West Salem HS- (Committed: Northern Arizona) Much like Schwake I see Whipple being one of the top linemen in the Big Sky, starting for 3-4 years, and potentially being an NFL guy. He is that good. Watching him on the basketball floor, it’s rare to see a kid with that size and overall athleticism. I think PAC 12’s missed badly here.
Colt Musgrave Colt Musgrave 6'2" | 215 lbs | LB Bend | 2021 State OR 6-2 220 LB 21’ Bend HS (Committed: Idaho) – Everyone is aware of the Musgrave name. Look for Colt to be one of the top LB’s in the Big Sky. Colt did not have a ton of LB film, playing QB most of his career, but he is an exception to the rule. The state skiing champ is a phenomenal overall athlete, who I project as a potential POY candidate at the next level. The Vandals got a steal.
Bryan Cuthbertson Bryan Cuthbertson 6'1" | 240 lbs | LB Sherwood | 2021 State OR 6-1 240 LB 21’ Sherwood HS (Offers: Portland St) One of my favorite players ever. The reigning conference POY is a walking, talking heart muscle, who will light you up and have you seeing three if you take him head on. Credit to PSU for the early offer. More schools should have done the same.
Shane Schwake Shane Schwake 6'8" | 295 lbs | OL Sheldon | 2021 State OR – 6-8 290 T 21’ Sheldon HS- (Committed: Eastern Washington) EWU got a steal. I’m surprised more schools did not get on this kid early. His ability to maneuver and even play D at 6-8 was incredibly impressive. Most young athletes that size have coordination issues. He does not.
Gavin Haines Gavin Haines 6'1" | 195 lbs | RB West Linn | 2021 State OR 6-1 200 WLB/RB 21’ West Linn HS (Offers: Idaho St, Georgetown) Haines was nothing short of dominate last year. He is an exception to the rule if we are talking 40 time. Gavin is one of the only athletes in the state who can play at the D1 level on either side of the football.
2022
Trejon Williams Trejon Williams 6'1" | 190 lbs | DB Jefferson | 2022 State OR 6-1 190 Safety 22’ Jefferson HS- (Offers: Everyone) The #1 overall player in Oregon. Trejon has god given traits and instincts that can’t be taught. His ability to break on a ball, and accelerate from a dead stop are just few examples of how he separates himself. He has the potential of being one of the best DB’s ever to come out of the state.
Jordan King Jordan King 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Central Catholic | 2022 State OR 6-3 200 WR/TE/OLB 22’ Central Catholic HS- (Offers: Central Michigan) King might be the most versatile athlete in the state. He is incredibly humble, but at the same time lethal, on both sides of the football. He can play 3-4 different positions at the highest level and could potentially be a 20+ offer division 1 athlete when all is said and done.
Kaden Ludwick Kaden Ludwick 6'5" | 245 lbs | DL Clackamas | 2022 State OR 6-5 235 DE/OLB 22’ Clackamas HS- As stated numerous times Ludwick is going to blow up once football resumes within the state. It’s a borderline crime for him not to have a handful of D1 offers right now (at least Big Sky’s & Mid Majors) . That said as he will be a Power 5 guy when that time comes.
Brian Mannion Brian Mannion 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Mountainside | 2022 State OR 6-3 190 QB 22’ Mountainside HS- I think Mannion will be a big-time collegiate Quarterback. He was dominate and confident in 5 games starting as a Sophomore (14 TDs/2 INTs), making throws that very few young QB’s anywhere in the nation could. Everyone is familiar with the name, coming from a football family, with brother Sean Mannion still in the NFL.
