Both teams played their hearts out for their respective state title opportunities, and despite the results, both teams had talent that was showcased on the biggest stage for high school football.
1. Gunnar Abseck (SR-WR) – Cedar Park High School (Cedar Park, TX)
Despite the 59-14 loss against Ryan, Cedar Park still had plenty of good performances from the 5A Division I state championship. One of those performances was Abseck, who came away with eight receptions for 103 yards. Abseck enjoyed a productive post-season, scoring eight touchdowns during the playoffs and having 583 receiving yards. Abseck finished the season with 1,115 yards and 15 touchdowns.
2. Jack Hestera Jack Hestera 6'1" | WR Ralston Valley | 2021 TX (SR-WR) – Cedar Park High School (Cedar Park, TX)
His teammate, Hestera, had five receptions for 73 yards and one touchdown in the state championship. Hestera also had a productive post-season with five touchdowns and 434 receiving yards. In total, Hestera finished the season with 1,052 yards and 16 touchdowns.
3. Grey Nakfoor (SR-RB) – Westlake High School (Austin, TX)
Nakfoor was one of the main scorers in Westlake’s state championship win over Southlake Carroll. The Chaparrals won 52-34, and Nakfoor accounted for three touchdowns and 73 yards in the game. During the post-season, Nakfoor rushed for 505 yards and scored 10 rushing touchdowns. He also finished the season with 945 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns.
4. Michael Taaffe (SR-DB) – Westlake High School (Austin, TX)
Taaffe offered both offensive and defensive plays in the state championship and was successful on both fronts. Offensively, he had six receptions for 61 yards. Defensively, Taaffe had six total tackles and two interceptions. Taaffe finished the season with five interceptions and 60 total tackles while scoring three touchdowns throughout the season.
