Although the decision has been slightly delayed due to the holiday, it is still the first-ever award to the man in the trenches that we love to call the hog mollies, the guys that do probably the most work but get the least amount of praise for their hard work! Learn all about it below on the man who won from the West Metro and why!
The WINNER: Shea Albrecht Shea Albrecht 6'5" | OL Orono | 2021 State MN of the Orono Spartans.
THE WHY
When I watch tape on offensive linemen, I watch these three things in particular. These three things are what locked in my choice for Shea Albrecht Shea Albrecht 6'5" | OL Orono | 2021 State MN for our first-ever Hog Molly of the Year for Prep Redzone Minnesota!
1) Finish the Man
Albrecht does a thoroughly excellent job of finishing his blocks and driving a defender yards up the field because he has so much leverage in his 6’4 305-pound body. If a player is on the ground about to get up? He will double finish him off. Albrecht is a kid that is the ultimate protector of his quarterbacks and running backs.
2) Engage on Multiple Levels
You see it time and time again when you watch his senior tape. Albrecht can go to multiple levels and has the “just go block somebody” mentality. It could be right off the snap on the line; it could be a little way up the field; Albrecht still will place multiple defenders on their rear end if not careful. This, to me, goes above and beyond on what you ask for upfront in the trenches.
3) Versatility
When you roll back Albrecht’s film, you see a kid that leaves it all out there on every play. I am a firm believer in versatility on the offensive line, and the more looks you show me on film of you producing on different blocks, the more you are going to stick out to us on film. Albrecht shows on film of him driving the bus, engaging on multiple levels, and shows just how much force he has into being the best hog molly upfront for Orono.
Under the Radar
Albrecht had a complete breakout senior season that in a typical year would have generated a ton more Divison I interest as he started in September generating interest from the Mountain West and the Big 12. Unfortunately, Minnesota’s decision to not play and then I genuinely think hurt this kid in becoming a power five prospect, which is where I think a player of his talent level should be. Some Divison I FCS or Northern Sun program will get an absolute steal is this kid, as in a typical year, an offensive line of his size, solid footwork, and college-ready frame would not fall to them.
Regardless, Albrecht played a senior season to remember and drew significant attention on both sides of the football, plowing big lanes for his Spartans running backs and being an excellent run stuffer with 38 tackles and tied lead defensively for tackles for a loss.
A big congratulations to Shea Albrecht Shea Albrecht 6'5" | OL Orono | 2021 State MN of Orono for winning our first-ever Hog Molly of the Year award in Minnesota on PrepRedzone Minnesota!
