Continue ReadingThis past weekend, M2 QB Academy held their annual Showdown Showcase at Stonehill College in Massachusetts with college coaches in attendance. A showcase that began five years ago by Owner/Trainer Mike McCarthy and his staff. The event’s mission purpose is to showcase and provide a stage for New England’s top Qb’s they train, and those who want to learn more about the qb position training they provide to recruits on a yearly basis. The event continues to grow each year with additional high-profile QB recruits mainly from the New England region. Skilled receiver and Defensive back prospects are also invited to perform at the event. A significant amount of college coaches from all levels attend the event.
This year, the 2023 showcase was no disappointment and is surely on track to be a annual premier showcase that many New England recruits and national college coaches from all levels will want to attend next year. The showcase allows wide receivers and defensive backs to showcase their athletic abilities in a very controlled and safe environment with plenty of opportunity for reps. The staff recognizes top QB performers and hands out Awards & MVP on the last day. This includes observation of these QB’s during both days. The following Qb’s were the Top Performers and MVP from the AM session chosen by the Coaching Staff…
Josh Morant Josh Morant 6’1″ | 180 lbs | QB Needham | 2024 State New E He is ranked as our #27 qb in the class of 2024 in New England region.
Coach McCarthy Notes/Analysis: MVP: It’s safe to say Josh Morant Josh Morant 6’1″ | 180 lbs | QB Needham | 2024 State New E turned some heads this weekend. Displaying an ability to make a wide variety of throws on or off the platform. There was no surprise he came home with camp MVP honors at the end of the weekend. His energy, confidence, and ability helped to ignite his competitors all weekend and set the stage for an extremely competitive day 2. However, the 2024 quarterback prospect rose to the occasion on day 2 and simply couldn’t be denied finishing in the top 2 of each of the day 2 challenges and ultimately dominating the second half of day two. This is where he really shined, as he consistently dissected the defenses and found openings or windows in soft coverages and displayed the ability to throw guys open out of breaks. Look for Morant to build on his MVP performance and continue to excel as he prepares for his senior season at Needham.
Highlights
Adam Ferreira Adam Ferreira 5’10” | 160 lbs | QB Sandwich H.S. Ma. | 2025 New E He is a name not known to me prior to this event. He will surely be added to our updated rankings being released August 2023.
Coach McCarthy Notes/Analysis: Runner-Up: A big part of Adam Ferreira Adam Ferreira 5’10” | 160 lbs | QB Sandwich H.S. Ma. | 2025 New E ‘s success during this past weekend’s showdown was his consistent, repeatable mechanics. Ferreira time and time again this weekend showed his ability to spin the rock while putting the ball in the right spot.rnIt was quite evident the young man has a firm grasp on recognizing and understanding how to identify coverages pre and post-snap as he time and time again exploited the holes in zone coverages and made accurate, on-time throws during the 1on1, half-field concepts, and 7 on 7 periods. Hopefully, this gets the ball rolling on his recruiting process, as I expect Adam to perform very well this coming fall.
Shane Maguire Shane Maguire 6’5″ | 215 lbs | QB Brooks | 2026 State New E A name not known to me prior to this event. He will surely be added to our updated rankings being released August 2023.
Coach McCarthy Notes/Analysis: Runner-Up: 3rd place: I think it’s safe to say Shane Maguire Shane Maguire 6’5″ | 215 lbs | QB Brooks | 2026 State New E oozes potential and stands near the top of the class in New England as far as 2026 quarterback prospects. The leader after day 1 couldn’t be denied all weekend, time and time again showing his arm strength and accuracy that without a shadow of a doubt translates to the next level.
Shane already stands at an astonishing 6”4 205 pounds, giving him the frame any college coach would look for in a signal caller. The consistency he displayed all weekend was impressive for such a young athlete. Shane is possibly the most improved player we have had come through our program, which makes me believe there is a lot more room for growth. College coaches should keep an eye on this kid as I believe he will be a factor in the ISL the coming years.

Lucas Swift Lucas Swift 6’0″ | 170 lbs | QB St. Georges. | 2026 New E : A name not known to me prior to this event. He will surely be added to our updated rankings being released August 2023.
Coach McCarthy Notes/Analysis: Runner-Up: 4th Place: The first thing that comes to mind after seeing Lucas Swift Lucas Swift 6’0″ | 170 lbs | QB St. Georges. | 2026 New E this past weekend is the + arm strength and velocity he possesses and the potential that comes with that. Lucas’ size and strength are something that set him apart from other 2025 prospects that were at the AM session.rnHis skill set and potential make him a very intriguing prospect in the 2025 class. If Lucas can continue to progress mechanically and become more consistent, I believe he has all the tools to have success as a college quarterback down the line. Keep an eye on this name as he looks to win the starting job and excel against the stiff competition Plymouth South is set to take on this season.
