Continue ReadingThe 2020 season is officially behind us and it is time to look at some of the leaders. On the defensive side of the ball, there were many players who were able to rack up tackles on a weekly basis. Here are the leaders in tackles from the 2020 season.
1. Harry Boland (2023) | Caldwell
2020: 124 tackles
There were nine players this past season with 100 or more tackles and Boland led them all with 124. The sophomore showed skills that were well beyond his years. He has great speed and strength which makes him a leader in the middle of a defense. Caldwell has their defensive anchor for the next two years.
T2. Charlie Barth Charlie Barth 5'11" | RB New Providence | 2022 State NJ (2022) | New Providence
2020: 115 tackles
Barth has been a threat on both sides of the ball for New Providence. He is effective with the ball in his hands and is a shore tackler on the other side. Barth has the power to force fumbles and the speed to turn them into touchdowns. He will enter the final season of his high school career as one of the best players in the state.
T2. Michael Dotro Michael Dotro 6'0" | LB Brearley | 2021 State NJ (2021) | Brearley
2020: 115 tackles
Dotro burst onto the scene this season and took the next step. He entered the year as a strong defender but ended as one of the best in New Jersey. He is a player who can play many positions and dominate at every one of them.
T3. Yah-Sin Calhoun (2021) | Freehold Boro
2020: 113 tackles
Freehold Boro was full of dual-threat players and Calhoun led them all. He was a reliable receiver and this helped him on the defensive end. His speed was a benefit on the outside on both sides of the ball.
T3. Locksley Burke Locksley Burke 5'9" | LB East Orange | 2021 State NJ (2021) | East Orange
2020: 113 tackles
Burke entered the season as one of the top defenders in New Jersey and this notion was only solidified as the season went on. He displayed strength that was next level and a leadership ability that took his game to the next level.
