After transferring in from Baldwin last year, DaCosta proved he could produce against the top competition in the state. He was the #1 cornerback for the Firebirds last season and he performed well against extremely talented receivers. In the second half of the season he started at receiver as well and showed flashes of how dangerous he could be. This season he’ll be relied on to thrive in those difficult matchups as a corner. And on offense he’ll be the leader of a very strong receiving corps for the Firebirds.

Kellenberg might’ve not had their strongest season, but Christian DaCosta was more than a bright spot for them. He earned “Team MVP” honors and was one of the top defensive backs in this league. He shut down some very talented receivers and his agility and overall footwork are some of the best you’ll see on Long Island. DaCosta showed off his offensive ability as well, he made plays both carrying the ball and hauling in some big time receptions.

Tough to not name this young man DB MVP. We had an exceptional DB group come through this camp, with eight total corners being named top performers post camp. Kellenberg Memorial’s Christian DaCosta was consistently annoying, consistently pesky from start to finish. Ran a sub 4.7 40, standing at 5’7 and weighing in at 155 pounds. Your typical build for a HS corner. Attentive to coaches during Indis, ran and performed with the same motor and intensity all throughout the camp, love seeing a DB this charged up. He was out to prove something, he was in the running for MVP until the last rep. Can flip his hips in a blink of an eye, great arm/hand pumper that allows him to hit speed gears after opening up his hips. Stayed on the hip of pretty much every wideout that tested him vertically during 1v1s. Kid has the long speed to stay with long-striders or speedsters downfield. I’d bet this shows up on tape too. Awesome job all camp locating the football on it’s way down. Fantastic feet, so quick that he can makeup for false steps right now. Guarantee this kid could produce at wideout if need be. Was a fun watch.

The newest addition for Kellenberg steps into this defense as the number one cornerback and that’s for good reason. He had a huge sophomore year at Baldwin and I believe that will translate to the Catholic league. He had a couple of great plays in man coverage in the scrimmage against St Anthony’s and DaCosta has the athleticism to make plays on offense as well.

. The 2025 defensive back did an amazing job for Baldwin in the playoffs last year. He made a couple of incredible plays in the semi final game including multiple big hits and a huge interception. He’s a fearless player who can make open field tackles and also get high enough to break up passes against taller receivers. He will be a great fit for the Firebirds
