I’ve found 8 dudes that I believe have enough athleticism to be called true “dual threat” QBs, or dance around enough in the pocket to catch a coach’s eye. Most of these guys are stepping into varsity roles this fall, so keep your eyes peeled for some of these athletes!
Austin Randall Austin Randall 6'1" | 180 lbs | ATH Waconia | 2024 State MN : 5’11” 185 lbs Waconia 2024
40: 4.66
Shuttle: 4.3
Broad Jump: 9′
L-Drill: 7.34
The Waconia junior continues to cement himself as a true dual-threat QB. Randall can use his agility both to extend plays on his feet outside of the pocket, and dance around in the pocket when he senses pressure. Randall is someone I’ve written extensively about and I’m pumped to see him during his senior year.
Caden Strand Caden Strand 6'2" | 180 lbs | ATH Detroit Lakes | 2025 State MN : 6’1″ 170 lbs Detroit Lakes 2025
40: 4.6
Shuttle: 4.4
Broad Jump: 9’3″
L-Drill: 7.31
Strand had a fantastic outing at the camp, impressing during both the combine and the skills portion. Someone who hasn’t had his time to shine on varsity yet, the sophomore will look to have a breakout season in 2023 as another MN dual-threat QB.
Brayden Shafer Brayden Shafer 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Princeton | 2025 MN : 6’2″ 170 lbs Princeton 2025
40: 4.73
Shuttle: 4.5
Broad Jump: 9′
L-Drill: 7.69
The presumed Princeton QB1, sophomore Brayden Shafer Brayden Shafer 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Princeton | 2025 MN showed off some great explosiveness, speed, and agility during the combine portion of the camp. Expect a big junior year for Shafer as the sophomore looks to fill some big shoes left by former Princeton QB, Cooper Drews Cooper Drews 6'4" | 205 lbs | QB Princeton | 2023 State MN .
Chase Pemberton Chase Pemberton 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB Andover | 2024 State MN : 6’3″ 180 lbs Andover 2024
40: 4.81
Shuttle: 4.81
Broad Jump: 9’1″
L-Drill: 7.5
The Andover QB showed off some of his mobility during Sunday’s combined portion of the camp. With limited varsity film to go off, it’s possible Pemberton flies under the radar and adds a potent rushing attack to an already very dangerous Huskies offense.
Maximus Simms: 6’1″ 170 lbs STA 2024
40: 4.95
Shuttle: 4.4
Broad Jump: 8’7″
L-Drill: 7.22
Simms has quickly become one of my favorite QBs in the class of 2024. He’s a great athlete who should flourish in STA’s new offensive system. When he gets his time to shine in this upcoming season, I have no doubts that he will go on to lead a very dangerous Cadet’s offense.
Camden Hungerholt Camden Hungerholt 6'1" | 165 lbs | QB Leroy-Ostrander | 2025 MN : 6′ 165 lbs LeRoy-Ostrander 2025
40: 4.78
Shuttle: 4.6
Broad Jump: 8’4″
L-Drill: 7.72
The LeRoy-Ostrander prospect looks to begin his junior year as the starter for the small 9-man school. The sophomore is quick on his feet and can extend plays when he’s out of the pocket. Expect Hungerholt to help the Cardinals rebound in 2023.
Thomas McEachern: 6’3″ 160 lbs Zimmerman 2026
40: 4.94
Shuttle: 4.69
Broad Jump: 9′
L-Drill: 7.87
On an offense that relies on its QBs to run the ball predominantly, McEachern will fit right in. The tall freshman showed off some surprising agility during the shuttle drill and some unexpected explosiveness in the broad jump. McEachern’s development is gonna be fun to watch.
Kane Donnelly: 6’2″ 175 lbs Somerset 2025 (WI)
40: 5
Shuttle: 4.5
Broad Jump: 8’11”
L-Drill: 7.37
Donnelly is a prospect that fascinates me. I don’t get to see that much of him since he lives across the state line, but I do know that as a sophomore he earned an all-district honorable mention as Somerset’s varsity starter. When I first saw his film I was impressed with the young QBs poise in the pocket and remarkable play under pressure. Donnelly is a kid I hope to see back at more camps.
