While plenty of WR’s throughout the entire state of GA have managed to put up gaudy receiving yards, we wanted to take some time to evaluate some of the top scoring WR’s in the state. In doing so, we were able to break down some of the key components to each of these players’ game, which ultimately translates to their high volume of success in the red zone this season. While you may have heard some of these names before, or have even seen us write about some of these prospects, below, you can see some evaluation notes in regards to their overall ability. [player_tooltip player_id="33785" first="Adriel" last="Clark"]- Rabun County Even though we may have covered Clark before due to his ability to to continuously put up numbers on the offensive side of the football, we wanted to take some time to evaluate his ability as a WR. Clark has a decent size and frame to him, and allows for his natural ability to catch the ball cleanly, and at different angles to be a contributing factor in his success. While he is a shifty player with the ball in his hands, he also has a unique burst to him that helps him gain separation from defenders. This is a huge part of his game due to the fact that while he may be quick, he does not have the desired long speed that a majority of high profile programs desire. Despite this, Clark has managed to find the end zone time, and time again. With this, Clark also has decent route running ability and shows consistency in limiting his false steps, allowing him to roll off of the line into smooth routes. [player_tooltip player_id="33861" first="Travis" last="Hunter"]- Collins Hill While it should be viewed as a given that Hunter is on this list, it should also be noted as a reminder that while he has had such a high level of success as a WR, he is being recruited to play DB at the next level due to his exceptional movement skills, twitch, and ability to flip his hips and change direction on a dime. This does not mean that he shouldn’t be recognized for his high level of success as a WR. As a WR, he is not only quick off of the line with his burst and acceleration, but he has a sudden quickness to his feet that can be seen to be very difficult for DB’s to cover. This ability allows him to stack defenders, and also put himself in perfect position to break routes off for easy gains, and TD’s. With this, he catches the ball cleanly, and allows for his burst to help him gain separation. Look for Hunter to continue to develop into his high ceiling, and eventually become a high talent at the next level Jordan McDonald- Milton While McDonald is listed a both a RB, and WR, and lines up in the backfield, we have included him on this list anyways due to his ability to be effective in the passing game. Not only does he catch the ball cleanly, but this creates match up problems for opposing defenses as he comes out of the backfield. It’s no wonder he is listed as a 3 star, because he clearly has game changing ability. Not only does he have a burst to him, but he has the ability to run downhill with the ball in his hands, making it hard for opposing defenses to bring him to the ground. Along with this, McDonald is a natural talent with the ball in his hands, making it even easier for him to score as both a RB/ or WR. Josh Patterson- Georgia Force Christian Josh Patterson, with Georgia Force Christian has managed to compile a large amount of success this season as well. Not only is he one of the leaders in points throughout the entire state, but he does so with the evident ability to be a positive force for his offense when the ball is thrown his way. Patterson, while he is a bit of a raw prospect, has shown that he is more than capable of taking the ball the distance due to his shiftiness, and ability to finish plays. His ability to change direction with the ball in his hands makes it very difficult for defenders to stop him. This is where he finds a ton of success. As a route runner though, he is a bit inconsistent with his footwork, and how he is able to transition in his routes. Regardless, his speed and burst make him one of the most effective scorers in the state. Brayden Collett- Greenbrier While we understand that many readers may not have heard of Collett, we would like to introduce him to you due to his ability to put up points for Greenbrier this season. Collett, who is a senior this season, is a smooth operating slot receiver, who finds ways to get open, as well as put himself in good position to make plays within the holes of the defense. He also has a slight twitch to him, and an ability to get up field to gain positive yardage. Along with this, Collett shows the ability to stop on a dime, and catch the ball cleanly, and effectively. What’s not to like about that? Collett has also shown the ability to be effective in the return game. It’s due to this fact that we firmly believe that smaller programs should consider looking at him. He definitely has the ability to be effective if given the chance.
