Instead of the normal state playoffs, teams opened the first of two weeks of extra games following the regular season, with each conference going about a different format. Following the two weeks of postseason play, the 2020 season will conclude with games during Thanksgiving week. There were some notable performances all across the state on Thursday night. Let’s take a look at the winners from the night.
Andrew Argenziano, Demarest: Argenziano threw for 160 yards and two touchdown passes and ran for another three to lead Demarest to a 46-22 victory over Dumont on Thursday night. Argenziano managed the game well and connected with Sean Vadis and Karan Khemlani throughout the night.
Karan Khemlani, Demarest: Khemlani caught three balls for 97 yards and had TD receptions of 77 and 13 yards from Argenziano in Demarest’s win. Khemlani also found the end zone on a 6-yard run.
Sean Vadis, Demarest: Vadis caught five passes for 58 yards and had an interception on the defensive end for Demarest.
Devon Turner, Dumont: Turner was a bright spot for Dumont despite the team’s 46-22 loss to Demarest. Turner ran for 107 yards on 17 carries and scored on runs of 3 and 42 yards.
Pitman Defense: Pitman got it done on the ground and on the defensive end, shutting out Schalick by a 27-0 score. It was the team’s best defensive performance since a 7-6 win over Princeton on Oct. 16.
Najier Massey, Asbury Park: Massey and Asbury Park fought off an upset-minded Matawan group Thursday night. Massey was a big reason why, as he ran for 192 yards on 22 carries and scored on a 32-yard run. He added six tackles on the defensive end. His 192 rushing yards was the most on the season.
Ives Kwinten, Palmyra: Kwinten found the end zone on an 11-yard run and scored on a 70-yard kickoff return for Palmyra in its 35-12 victory Thursday night.
Louis Vasquez, Riverside: Vasquez returned a fumble 55 yards for a score in Riverside’s loss to Palmyra Thursday night.
Quadir Fussell, Collingswood: Fussell had an interception to seal the deal for Collingswood in its 8-6 victory over Gloucester. Gloucester had the ball with 1:11 remaining and a chance to win the game before the Collingswood senior put the finishing touches on the game.
Shawn Martin, Scotch Plains-Fanwood: Martin rushed for 144 yards on 33 carries and scored on a 2-yard run to lead Scotch Plains-Fanwood to a 14-12 victory over Montgomery. Anthony Robinson also had a nice night on the ground for the Union County team with 73 rushing yards on 15 carries and a 17-yard score.
Dylan McFadden, Montgomery: McFadden was the top threat for Montgomery in the air Thursday night, as he finished with five receptions for 147 yards and a 59-yard TD reception from quarterback Alex Benitez Alex Benitez 5'8" | QB Montgomery | 2022 NJ .
Kenny Uchida, Tenafly: Uchida led 7-0 Tenafly to a 20-13 victory over Pascack Hills. He scored on runs of 40 and 68 yards.
Andrew Kanter, Millburn: Kanter scored on three runs to lead Millburn to its first victory of the season following Thursday’s 41-13 win over Harrison.
Aden Moskovitz, Vernon: Moskovitz ran for 80 yards and scored on a pair of runs and he caught a 27-yard TD pass on his way to 55 receiving yards in Vernon’s 42-12 win over Indian Hills.
Ian Schmid, Vernon: Schmid was a force for Vernon on the ground. He finished with 168 yards on 22 carries and found the end zone twice to lead Vernon to victory.
Cael Zebrowski Cael Zebrowski 6'1" | QB Verona | 2022 NJ , Verona: Zebrowski had a night to remember in Verona’s 41-14 thrashing of Hoboken. The quarterback threw for 320 yards and was extremely efficient, going 14-of-17 in the game. He connected with Marcos Czupak on a 63-yard TD pass, and he found James Haveron 10 times for 180 yards. Zebrowski ran nine times for 57 yards and scored on three runs. Verona improved to 5-2.
