It was just a few years back when Coach Bushman had these guys at the top, going (26-1) over his last two seasons, with a state title in 2017. Last year’s debacle can’t be forgotten soon enough, so Clackamas is eager to get back out on the field and compete.
QB Jack Artman Jack Artman 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Clackamas | 2021 State OR (6-3 190 21’) didn’t get a ton of snaps, playing behind Austin Atkeson the last two seasons, but he is legit and ranked one of my top 10 quarterbacks in Oregon. It will be up to him to lead this group on the perimeter which features multiple D1 kids. Junior 3* WR Miles Williams Miles Williams 6'0" | 180 lbs | WR Clackamas | 2022 State OR 6-0 175 is listed among the top players in the entire state for 22’, with offers from Oregon St and Nevada.
Add to this returning standout Nick Kennewell Nick Kennewell 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Clackamas | 2021 State OR (6-2 180 21’) who caught 32 passes for 514 yards and 6 TDs last year, and a couple other talented junior’s in Josiah Manning Josiah Manning 5'10" | 165 lbs | DB Clackamas | 2022 OR and KJ Johnson-Gibson. Manning earned honorable mention all-conference honors on the defensive side of the ball as a Sophomore and Kemeatrous (KJ) has had a phenomenal off season upping his stock.
Kaden Ludwick Kaden Ludwick 6'5" | 245 lbs | DL Clackamas | 2022 State OR 6-5 225 OLB/TE 22’ and Sully McDaniel (6-2 215 LB/TE 23’) are athletes who project at the D1 level on defense. Ludwick could blow up once the season starts as he has the size and all of the tools. He is currently ranked one of my top 10 players in Oregon for his class. McDaniel is a super talented lacrosse kid who most people aren’t aware of yet, but he will have plenty of options on the football side of things as well.
Clack graduates 4 starters up front on the O line so they will need less experienced, younger lineman to step up. This will be the first year in a while where that is actually a question mark. One of the most intriguing prospects listed is Kage Casey Kage Casey 6'6" | 265 lbs | OL Clackamas | 2022 State OR (6-5 235 T 22’), a kid who looks the part and then some.
Speaking on a few of his young guys Artman says, “Kage is one of the most physically gifted athletes that I have seen, and I think once people see Kaden and Sully playing the LB spots they will bring a lot of colleges out from a recruiting standpoint.”
The X factor for me will be RB Jake Spitulski (5-11 195 21’). The Cavs typically have a back and an O line where they can control the game running the ball. Artman spoke on his RB saying, “Jake is going to have a big year for us, he brings a lot to the table and is one of the strongest backs in the state.”
On the line Connor McCarty (6-1 285 C 22’) returns after playing early. That said as you can expect some of the Cavs talented returning D lineman to go both ways. Logan Chastain Logan Chastain 6'0" | 275 lbs | DL Clackamas | 2022 State OR (6-0 275 DT 22’) was one of the only Sophomore’s state-wide to earn 1st team all-conference accolades at the 6A level last season. You should also hear a lot from Levi Toussaint (6-1 270 DT 21’) and potentially Izzy Baker (6-3 215 DE 21’) coming off the edge.
Two other individuals who will be difference makers include returning all-conference WLB Ethan Secor (5-11 175 21’) and Safety Cameron Bettles (6-2 185 21’), who comes from a football family and can play.
Clackamas High School is one of the best places you can be on a Friday night. Give a lot of credit to those within the athletic community. It’s an impressive program from the youth on up. Regardless of the sport Clack does it right and they should be commended.
In summary I will have the Cavs listed as a potential top 5 team to start the season. They are young but loaded on the perimeter. We will bring you updates as the season draws near.
