ST. CLOUD-- Prep Redzone Minnesota will be at St. Cloud Tech High School tonight to watch Moorhead take on the home Sartell Sabres. This game just got moved yesterday morning to Tech to allow the Sabres and Spuds to play on a more climate-friendly field turf field. Here are a few takeaways to watch tonight between the Sabres and the Spuds
Two Must Watch Quarterbacks
Rarely do we get a game with two of the best quarterbacks in the state in their respective classes, and we will get that tonight in St. Cloud. North Dakota commit [player_tooltip player_id="18044" first="Trey" last="Feeney"] will lace it up for the Spuds and [player_tooltip player_id="19010" first="Cole" last="Hentges"] for Sartell. Feeney has been putting up video game-type numbers in his first two weeks, with over 600 passing yards, and has already thrown for 10 touchdowns. Hentges faced a tough Bemidji team last week and had some difficulty. Still, Hentges is a player that just loves the game of football, along with being an outstanding team leader.
Spuds Defense is Tough as Nails
6 points that are all the Spuds have allowed this year defensively in their first two games. They consist of tons of playmakers on defense in DE [player_tooltip player_id="18153" first="Thomas" last="Myers"], LB [player_tooltip player_id="49823" first="Austin" last="Altepeter"], DE [player_tooltip player_id="18446" first="Jack" last="Teiken"], and others that have been very effective all over the field against some pretty decent opponents that they just blew out.
Sabres Up Front
Sartell has three players you need to watch on defense tonight in St. Cloud. [player_tooltip player_id="18088" first="Ethan" last="Torgrimson"] is a tough hitting linebacker with his fair share of Division II offers, mostly at linebacker. Another linebacker to watch is [player_tooltip player_id="18523" first="Steven" last="Brinkerhoff"], who really crashed some running lanes well in their game last week at Bemidji. At defensive end, there’s Blake Haus, one of our biggest misses we had in our 2022 rankings at PrepRedzone; Haus has an excellent frame and is so efficient he plays at both the defensive and the defensive ends at tight end. College programs need to buy the stock now in Haus.
The Landscape of the Game
The temperatures have shifted significantly in this game. It was predicted to be 12 degrees at kickoff on Tuesday but will now be around 27 (which is still too cold for October). Moorhead is a program that has had great success passing in the first two weeks, and I don’t expect that to change tonight with who they have at QB1. Let’s not forget that the Spuds have some excellent running backs in Arhzeen Shahin and George Nyanforh, who have been productive in the first two weeks. As for Sartell, look for them to mix it up. [player_tooltip player_id="18088" first="Ethan" last="Torgrimson"] is a rigid back that will bully some yards into the Spuds defense tonight even with an outstanding defense. [player_tooltip player_id="19010" first="Cole" last="Hentges"] is also quite mobile with his feet so look for him to make some plays on the run of his own.
Game Prediction:
Moorhead, I believe, will be 3-0 after this game tonight. The Sabres are a program that is certainly a promising one to watch in the coming years, but Moorhead just has too many weapons to keep quiet. The Spuds will be victorious by a few touchdowns. Prediction: Moorhead 35, Sartell 14.
