Luther came into this matchup at 3-3 after dropping their first 3 games and then starting off district play 3-0. Luther was not as fortunate in this mathcup as penalties and turnovers plagued them throughout the night. However, they still produced some big performances, so lets look at a few players who caught our eye against OCS. [player_tooltip player_id="63396" first="Elijah" last="Scott"] - Running Back - Class of 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="63396" first="Elijah" last="Scott"] is a shorter, speedier back who did not get many opportunities in this game due to the nature of the scoring. Luther trailed big most of the night forcing them to pass the ball more than they usually might have, so Elijah did not see too many carries. When they did call his number, however, Elijah showed some impressive burst and elusiveness in the open field. He did not have a career night but he did give the Luther offense a much-needed spark in this game with a few explosive runs. Look out for him to be more of an impact player in the backstretch of the season. [player_tooltip player_id="63397" first="Braden" last="Browning"] - Quarterback - Class of 2022 Friday night was a bit of a mixed bag for [player_tooltip player_id="63397" first="Braden" last="Browning"]. On one hand, he threw for two touchdowns and made some big plays while avoiding pressure. On the other hand, he threw 3 interceptions and looked a little lost at times. Browning is a former RB who is starting at QB for the first time this season, so you have to take that into account when evaluating him. He was pressured heavily most of the night meaning he was always on the run from defenders and had to make decisions on the fly. At times he showed some nice velocity and decision making on the run,and other times he looked like he was just throwing the ball to get rid of it hoping someone would catch it. Overall, I believe Browning can be a quality QB for Luther, but he will have to minimize the turnovers and poor decisions he made in this game. [player_tooltip player_id="63399" first="Drew" last="Scheer"] - Wide Receiver - Class of 2021 As I stated in [player_tooltip player_id="63396" first="Elijah" last="Scott"]’s report, Luther was forced to pass the ball most of the game against OCS, so naturally there will be at least a couple of WRs on this list, with the first being [player_tooltip player_id="63399" first="Drew" last="Scheer"]. Scheer ran some good routes all night and did a good job of coming back to the quarterback on plays where he had to scramble outside the pocket, which was often in this one. Scheer is one of the Senior leaders on this team and played like it in this game with a handful of big catches including a 23-yard touchdown in the 2nd quarter. [player_tooltip player_id="63398" first="Zac" last="Parsons"] - Wide Receiver - Class of 2021 Another receiver that benefited from Luther’s pass-happy attack against OCS was [player_tooltip player_id="63398" first="Zac" last="Parsons"]. Parsons did not light it up in the first half due to lack of targets, but he certainly made the most of the throws that came his way in the second half. He was a big factor in the 4th quarter of this game, especially on their touchdown drive to bring it within a one score game. Parsons was the recipient of the TD throw from Browning and made a spectacular catch over a DB who was called for pass interference despite the catch. Parsons has nearly 300 yards and 4 TDs receiving this year and should remain a key contributor in this offense down the stretch. [player_tooltip player_id="63400" first="Owen" last="Wilson"] - Tight End/ Defensive End - Class of 2022 Perhaps the biggest performance of the night came from [player_tooltip player_id="63400" first="Owen" last="Wilson"]. Wilson is a defensive end thanks to his speed and size at 6’4", but the plays he made against OCS almost make you wonder if he should be dropping back in coverage more. Wilson had 2 interceptions on the night and was constantly in the backfield disrupting plays. Wilson had a huge breakout season a year ago as a sophomore with 76 tackles and 7 sacks, and he is on pace to improve on those numbers this year with 46 tackles, 6 sacks, and 2 interceptions through 7 games. Look for [player_tooltip player_id="63400" first="Owen" last="Wilson"] to be a potential riser in our rankings later in the season or leading up to next year.
