Regardless of the outcome, there were still a handful of players who impressed us in this game. Let’s take a look at a few of them.
Makari Slaughter Makari Slaughter 5'9" | ATH Yukon | 2022 OK – Running Back – Class of 2022
Alongside Brayden Dutton Brayden Dutton 6'0" | ATH Yukon | 2022 State OK and Joseph Wythe Joseph Wythe 5'10" | ATH Yukon | 2022 OK , Makari Slaughter Makari Slaughter 5'9" | ATH Yukon | 2022 OK was an integral part of Yukon’s option attack in this game. Slaughter had two first-half touchdowns and played the role of the pitchman in the speed option to perfection. Slaughter trailed behind Dutton patiently all night and exploded to the second level whenever Dutton called his number. Slaughter showed great acceleration and open field awareness in this game and was one of the top playmakers on either team throughout the night.
Brayden Dutton Brayden Dutton 6'0" | ATH Yukon | 2022 State OK – Quarterback – Class of 2022
It takes an intelligent and reliable quarterback to run a triple/speed option attack and that’s just what Dutton is. Brayden made the correct reads constantly throughout the night and had Santa Fe’s defense second-guessing themselves every time he pulled it and ran their speed option with Slaughter. On some plays, he would keep it and gain solid yards on the ground, and on other plays, he would pitch it to Slaughter last second for a huge play most of the time. Either way, Dutton facilitated Yukon’s offense nearly perfectly in the first half of this game.
Lane Parks Lane Parks 6'5" | 275 lbs | OL Yukon | 2022 State OK and Grady Walker Grady Walker 6'1" | Offensive Line Yukon | 2022 OK – Offensive Line – Class of 2022
As you can see by now, Yukon’s rushing attack was firing on all cylinders for the first half of this game and a large portion of the credit should go to their O-Line. Lane played at tackle in this and Grady played at guard throughout the night and both dominated upfront in the run game. Santa Fe is loaded with talent at DL but with the push Yukon was getting early in this game you wouldn’t think so. Lane is the more touted recruit out of the two with serious D1 potential, but Grady Walker Grady Walker 6'1" | Offensive Line Yukon | 2022 OK is still a name to know moving forward as he looked dominant for portions of this game against a very skilled Santa Fe defense.
Joseph Wythe Joseph Wythe 5'10" | ATH Yukon | 2022 OK – Fullback – Class of 2022
The player that surprised me the most, in a good way, was Joseph Wythe Joseph Wythe 5'10" | ATH Yukon | 2022 OK . He did not have a player of the week type night in the box score and he isn’t the flashiest player, but man is he physical in the run game. I constantly found myself getting excited when they would give him the ball up the middle on FB dives because he simply refused to go down on first contact and often made defenders look silly as he ran through them. With today’s spread offense revolution, you seldom see fullbacks who can make a difference with the ball in their hands so it is exciting when you see a player like Wythe running through defenders at the second level.
