Recruiting: 2023 Hobbs LB commits to ENMU

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Eastern New Mexico has secured the commitment from one of the top 2023 defensive players in the Land of Enchantment.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Just a few days after Ruidoso DL [player_tooltip player_id='138085' first='Dalton' last='Trapp'] pledged to the Greyhounds, 2023 Hobbs linebacker <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='138050' first='Kenyon' last='Singleton']</strong> announced Tuesday afternoon that he would sign with ENMU as well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>“What impressed me about ENMU was the new coaching staff,” Singleton told Prep Redzone New Mexico. “They are really coming in there to make EMNU a winning program again. That's something i want to be a part of. It's going to be special.”</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Singleton visited ENMU on Jan. 13 and was offered by returning head coach Kelley Lee during his stay in Portales. Lee was named the new ENMU head coach on Jan. 9 after spending the last two years coaching at a Texas high school. He previously served as the head coach of the Greyhounds from 2017-2020.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Singleton says Lee's sincerity and genuineness stood out to him during their numerous conversation leading up to Smith's commitment.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>“Every conversation with coach Kelly was very personable,” Singleton said. “It felt like he wasn't just talking to another recruit. I felt like he actually wanted me to be there. One of the first things he did as the new coach was give me a call, so that's something that really made a impression on me.” &nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Singleton played inside linebacker with Hobbs but was recruited by ENMU as an outside LB as the Greyhounds look to take advantage of his speed and tenacity on the perimeter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Singleton amassed nearly 300 tackles in 27 career games with the Eagles, earning him the well deserved distinction as one of the top linebackers in the state. He earned Second Team All-State honors in December after making 137 tackles in 11 games this past season. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>“I couldn't have asked for anything better at Hobbs,” Singleton said. “The coaching staff, especially Coach Willingham, really helped me along the way. That's why I've become the player I am.
