The regular season is now over in the state of Iowa, but the fact that many, many programs were able to complete seven games in seven weeks is a credit to the coaches, administration staffs and all involved. Now, we move into the playoffs as just about every team will play either this Friday or next Friday. But before that, we need to recap the action of Week 7 including the key performances and marquee games. Ankeny Clicking On All Cylinders Once Again The race to the Class 4A state title will be a fun one to watch unfold. Southeast Polk enters as the No. 1 team, but Ankeny is ready to knock them off that top spot. The Hawks finished out the regular season with a convincing 45-14 victory over Indianola and will enter at 6-1 overall. Oh, and they recently got [player_tooltip player_id="35343" first="Arland" last="Bruce IV"] cleared to play. Bruce caught seven passes for 88 yards and ran for 71 yards with a score. Senior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="23828" first="Jase" last="Bauer"] had 181 yards passing and three total TDs with [player_tooltip player_id="23967" first="Colin" last="Kadolph"] rushing for 172 yards and a TD. Burgess Does It Again Montezuma’s [player_tooltip player_id="23965" first="Eddie" last="Burgess"] put together another eye-popping night on the football field this past week. Burgess, a junior, completed 22 of 27 passes for 326 yards with five touchdowns, including two to Cole Watts. Burgess also ran 17 times for 211 yards and three scores in a 62-24 victory for the Braves over Lone Tree. Watts had seven receptions for 146 yards and the two scores with Trey Shearer catching 10 passes for 119 yards and two TDs. On defense, Burgess was all over the field, recording 12.5 tackles with 4.5 for loss, an interception and half a sack. Brilliant Finish For DeJean, OABCIG Another week, another big-time, stat-filled night for [player_tooltip player_id="23817" first="Cooper" last="DeJean"]. The University of Iowa commit led OABCIG to its second straight perfect regular season, as the Falcons will now look to complete back-to-back runs at the state title. DeJean threw for 243 yards and two scores, ran for 120 with four TDs and made eight tackles on defense. Harlan Scores Victory Over Lewis Central In one of the featured games of the week, Harlan used a 21-point second half to top Lewis Central, 28-10. Teagon Kasperbauer was 15-for-24 for 232 yards with three touchdowns, adding a rushing score. Connor Frame had all three TD catches, hauling in seven passes for 130 yards. [player_tooltip player_id="23806" first="Thomas" last="Fidone"], one of the top players in the state, had three receptions for 91 yards for the Titans. Black Raiders Keep It Rolling Since a neutral site loss to Fort Dodge, Sioux City East has been untouchable. The Black Raiders won for the fifth consecutive time, topping Council Bluffs Lincoln, 31-27. During the current run, they avenged the loss to the Dodgers, 20-6. [player_tooltip player_id="23964" first="Luke" last="Longval"] completed 14 of 21 passes for 166 yards with two TDs, including three connections with Terrick Thompson for 60 yards. Tyson Helseth-Bryan added 65 yards rushing in the win. Seven different receivers caught passes from Longval and the team ran for 154 yards on 35 carries. Sigourney-Keota Caps Perfect Season Sam Sieren and [player_tooltip player_id="23868" first="Brady" last="Duwa"] made sure there would be no letdown before the playoffs for Sigourney-Keota, leading the Cobras to a 68-8 win over Cardinal. Forty-nine points in the second and third put some distance between Sigourney-Keota and the Comets. Sieren completed his only pass attempt of the night, which went for 80 yards to Duwa. He also ran for 155 yards and a score. Cade Molyneux and Colton Clarahan each threw TD passes with Molyneux adding 120 yards and two scores on the ground. The Cobras had 461 yards rushing as a team. Baxter Wins Thriller Vs. Colo-Nesco Baxter and Colo-Nesco combined for 62 points in the second quarter alone as the Bolts scored a 74-61 victory. The two-headed monster attack of Cody Damman and Rory Heer led the way for Baxter. Damman ran for 266 yards and four touchdowns, only to be overshadowed by the 324-yard, seven-TD night from Heer. Heer, a junior, even caught the only pass completion of the night from Damman, a sophomore, for 15 yards. On defense, Heer made 12.5 tackles and Damman 10. For Colo-Nesco, Kenny Cutler threw for 163 yards and five touchdowns, with Andrew Grover rushing for 173 yards and Andrew Tschantz 107. Brandon Roberts had 95 yards and three TDs. Cowboys Get On The Board Clarion-Goldfield/Dows earned its first victory of the season, thumping Eagle Grove, 76-0. Shane Conlon was 7-for-13 passing for 164 yards and three TDs, adding two rushing scores. Trenton Jergenson had 147 yards and four scores, with Mateo Martinez catching five passes for 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
