It’s never a bad time to grind some film, and Wisconsin’s high school football players have done a wonderful job of quickly posting their game-by-game Hudl’s in 2020. With two weeks of the season having already passed PrepRedzoneWI wanted to check in on studs from all over the state and breakdown some film to see who is playing well and what there is to like about their game. I tried to watch as many Hudl’s as I could, so get ready for some analysis of 2021s, 2022s, and 2023s and their performances during Week 2 of the 2020 Wisconsin high school football season. Thanks for reading! Israel Powell (University School of Milwaukee) 5’10, 255 lbs. 2021. vs. Lake Country Lutheran Played both ways against LCL and made his presence known last Friday. He made a couple nice TFLs from his DL position and was a force as a pulling guard as well. He’s well-built and could play DL, IOL, or OT in college. I think he really shines at DL, and has a nice first step and plays low and strong. [player_tooltip player_id="31207" first="Nathan" last="Skebba"] (Grafton) 6’5, 260 lbs. 2022. 2020 First 2 Games Played RT, OG, and DT in his first two games, and as an OL he was playing aggressively and through the whistle. Off the snap he has some really explosive punch and keeps his feet pumping always. Once he gets his hands on you it’s game over, and does a good job of getting his hands inside as well. Reid Spencer (Kettle Moraine) 6’3, 205 lbs. 2022. vs. Waukesha North . Mostly played TE in his first game, and was a menacing blocker who uses his hands well and works to the second level too. He’s a high-motor blocker and made a couple catches as well. He laid a strong tackle defensively as well. [player_tooltip player_id="30767" first="Brock" last="Lampe"] (Bradford) 6’1, 225 lbs. 2022. vs. Tremper . Played LB and FB and absolutely LIT some people up from the fullback position. He would just put his head and shoulder through defenders and send these kids flying. It was fun to watch. He also got a couple carries and ran hard to the point where you could see DBs and LBs get a little hesitant to try and tackle him. He ran through some people too, and keeps his feet pumping through contact. [player_tooltip player_id="31110" first="Logan" last="Fitzhugh"] (Kaukauna) 6’3, 180 lbs. vs. Martin Luther . Made a couple nice deep catches from the WR position, including a TD on a fade route in the endzone. He also ran a nice post-corner for a catch, and a shorter endzone fade that he caught over the shoulder with one hand. [player_tooltip player_id="31007" first="Andrew" last="Durham"] (Muskego) 6’7, 240 lbs. OT. vs. Arrowhead . Worked to the second level quickly and gets his hands inside and works to seal off DLineman well. Obviously has a good frame too, and has some great length in his arms. Kegan Huber (Badger) 6’, 175 lbs. 2022. vs. Union Grove . From his safety spot he gets downhill quickly and the first play of his tape he showed a tremendously instinctive play and made a really clean rip that stripped the ball loose for a huge momentum play. He’s a good open-field tackler as well and has some nice range. Also had some nifty plays offensively including a slick run with a spin move and a little bubble screen that made some people miss too. [player_tooltip player_id="30889" first="Mason" last="Wiesner"] (Manawa Little Wolf) QB/DB. 6’3, 195 lbs. Weeks 1-2 . In his highlights covering the first two weeks of the season he looked mobile and shifty in the pocket from the QB position and made some nice reads and plays in the read-option offense, including an exciting run where he found the corner and took off. Threw with some nice touch as well. Definitely more of a runner. [player_tooltip player_id="30777" first="Will" last="DeGoey"] (Kaukauna) 6’8, 300 lbs. vs. Martin Luther . In the 39-7 win for Kaukauna DeGoey moved some DLineman and flattened some defenders too. Was a crushing run-blocker. [player_tooltip player_id="31312" first="Derrick" last="Lehner"] (Hamilton) 6’, 190 lbs. 2022. vs. Brookfield East vs. Germantown . Against Germantown the 2022 LB flowed well to the ball and attacked blockers, and was physical at the point of contact. He also timed out his blitzes well and got into the backfield quickly. Against Brookfield East he made a couple strong tackles too. Colby Horn (Hamilton) 6’5, 220 lbs. 2022. vs. Germantown Week 1 . The DE has a long frame and used his body well to out-position blockers and keeps his hands active. He made a nice TFL, and an even more impressive TD saving tackle where he had to track down the RB 30ish yards downfield and showed some great pursuit. A little grabby as a tackler but there’s still a lot to like. Jack Janke (Ellsworth) 6’, 185 lbs. 2022. Weeks 1-2 . Loved his frame as deep safety, and covered some ground from the MOF all the way to the sideline to make a nice INT on the first play of his tape. Also made a George Kittle-esque TD reception where he stiff-armed a would-be tackler into the dirt and ran by another tackler for a TD. On another TD catch he took a seemingly normal little out route, stutter-stepped the nearest tackler, and took off down the sideline past two other tacklers hot in pursuit. Also scored on a sweet double-move in the redzone, and made some shifty moves after the catch on another play. He had a great two-game highlight and is definitely a 2022 sleeper. [player_tooltip player_id="31085" first="Caden" last="Griffiths"] (Elkhorn Area) OL. Week 2 vs. Westosha . Helped block for a Elkhorn Area offense that put up 619 yards of total offense in week 2 vs. Westosha. A mauling run-defender with some huge size who showed great hand-placement and used his leverage well. [player_tooltip player_id="31101" first="Jake" last="Burmeister"] (Elkhorn Area) 6’2, 225 lbs. vs. Westosha Central . A great sized TE who is a really strong runner with great foot drive who can be utilized in the blocking and passing game. He’s actually got some solid speed for his size, and some impressive catches and pancake blocks. He also showed some nice lateral agility as a DE, and made a nice TFL and a really hard hit on another tackle. Joseph Hella (Wrightstown) 6’4, 230 lbs. vs. Luxemburg-Casco vs. Denmark Against Denmark high school had a crushing pancake block, and against LuxCasco he aggressively shed a block attempt with his hands and made a nice TFL. Nick Hansen (Marquette University) 6’1, 195 lbs. QB. vs. Wisconsin Lutheran . Last Friday he went 18-22 for 309 yards and 4 TDs with a rushing TD. Hansen had a crazy stat line on Friday and backed it up on film, as he looked like a superb athlete with crisp footwork who threw an accurate ball with great touch. If things broke down in the pocket he did an impressive job of keeping his eyes downfield but taking off if things got too pressured. He’s got some speed as well and is a threat as a runner. He had a really nice game. [player_tooltip player_id="30748" first="Austin" last="Dahlke"] (Edgar) LB. vs. Onalaska Recorded 3 sacks, 2 INTs, 1 FR against Onalaska. Explodes through the LOS after diagnosing plays and swallows up ball-carriers. Interception came on a beautiful drop where he sunk right into the blind spot of the QB and underneath a route. Also almost had a second INT on a tipped pass and he was in the right spot covering a crossing route. Is a really impressive blitzer who comes off the edge tight to the line and flys in like his hair is on fire. The way he triggers on the ball and covers ground is one of my favorite traits about him, and he’s a great athlete at the LB position. [player_tooltip player_id="30746" first="Jack" last="Martens"] (Cumberland) 5’11, 180 lbs. WR/DB. Week 2 Recorded 6 catches for 94 yards and 2 TDs, 1 INT for a TD. Made a diverse variety of impressive football plays, including a big block on a punt return for a teammate and some shifty runs. Martens has some serious speed and knows how to use it, and stands out on tape like a Division 1 prospect. He’s really fun to watch and is a smooth and natural football player. Sebastian Jefferson (Waukesha South) 6’, 185 lbs. DB/WR. vs. Ocono Good release off the LOS as a WR and has some nice acceleration. As a DB I like his physicality and eye discipline, and he’s got some loose hips as well. Also has no problem helping out in the run game which you’d always like from a CB. Alex Eichmann (Hamilton) 6’3, 185 lbs. 2022. vs. Brookfield East Nice sized RB who made a huge play on a wheel route out of the backfield and broke a tackle for a long TD, and also made a beautiful throw on a RB double-pass where Eichmann delivered a over-the-shoulder dime to a receiver in stride. He’s got long-strides and has great hands for a RB and showed some willingness to help out in pass-pro too. [player_tooltip player_id="31376" first="Ahman" last="Brewah"] (Menomonee Falls) 5’11, 185 lbs. 2022. vs. Germantown As a LB/DB recorded 9 tackles, 2 TFLs, 1 sack. As a standup OLB there was a lot to like about the way he operated at the LOS. Showed a great ability to navigate the traffic and locate the ball, and can bounce gap-to-gap while keeping momentum well. He also does a good job of not over-pursuing and staying well-positioned in the open field. Good tackler who uses his hands well to defeat blocks too. [player_tooltip player_id="30818" first="Will" last="Straka"] (Mineral Point) 6’1, 215 lbs. RB/LB. vs. Lake Mills For 215 lbs. Straka has some impressive shiftiness and lateral agility and some good vision as well. When he runs he’s naturally shifty and runs almost bouncing side-to-side, and it definitely throws off tacklers as they approach. He’s very strong and can run over defenders, and plays with a low center of gravity. As a LB he’s very patient and is excellent in coverage, and looks like a great athlete on film. No surprise he’s a returning All-Region pick. [player_tooltip player_id="30915" first="Dylan" last="Dohr"] (Hilbert) 6’, 175 lbs. Recorded 165 rushing yards, 3 tackles, 1 INT, 2 TDs last Friday. vs. Cedar Grove-Belgium His speed helped him make a TD saving tackle as a DB, and that same speed makes him a really exciting RB. He’s got great vision and wade through bodies plus has the patience to let his blockers set up room for him. He also has some solid acceleration and runs behind his pads too. All-around nice RB prospect who also easily play DB at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="31011" first="Ethan" last="Neils"] (Germantown) 6’1, 225 lbs. LB. Versus Menomonee Falls he did a nice job of working back to the football and not getting caught up by blockers, and is a strong tackler who flys around and sacrifices his body to make the play. Laid some hard hits too. Alex Belongia (Rice Lake) 6’2, 180 lbs. 2022. WR/DB. Week 2 Highlights Made a crazy catch over two defenders with a nice vertical, and laid some wood on a nice redzone hit as a S. Belongia works well back to the football and has some good hands, and shows a strong cut-tackle and physical presence at the safety position. I really like him as a DB prospect in the run-game and in pass-coverage. [player_tooltip player_id="30755" first="Charlie" last="Clark"] (Edgewood) 6’7, 300 lbs. OL/DL. vs. Baraboo Blocked a PAT, which is one of the most underrated and important plays in football, and moves well for 300 lbs. with a strong punch in run-blocking and pass-pro. [player_tooltip player_id="30730" first="Garrett" last="Gillette"] (Mukwonago) 6’5, 230 lbs. First 2 Games Absolutely tossed a kid on the first play of his tape, and looks like a OT out there playing TE. Shows really great fundamentals in the blocking game and is a high-motor and crushing blocker who loves finishing blocks into the dirt. Keeps his hands inside and is a great hand-fighter and keeps his feet pumping and looks like he really loves putting defenders into the dirt and finishing blocks. Around 1:12 in the tape there’s a play where Gillette got out in the open field and in-front of the ball-carrier and absolutely flattened a DB near the goal line. Also blocked a punt in a really athletic play. You can tell he’s a superb athlete and it’s no surprise he’s going to be playing P5 football at Arizona State. [player_tooltip player_id="31277" first="Nick" last="Ferge"] (Marquette University) 6’5, 190 lbs. 2022. vs. Wisconsin Lutheran High School You have to check out the first play of his highlights, as the 6’5 2022er catches a little hitch in space, turns out of a tackle, and then completely turns on the JETS and bursts out for a 70-yard TD. He looked really good accelerating and with his speed at the top-end, and you don’t see a lot of 6’5 WRs moving that fast. He uses his hands to strongly pluck the football out of the air and is a willing blocker as well. I like how he isn’t scared to go over the middle or make a contested catch as well. [player_tooltip player_id="31213" first="Joey" last="Okla"] (Arrowhead) 6’3, 285 lbs. OL. Waukesha South I really liked his pass-set in pass-pro, and as a run-blocker he’s nonstop looking for work. He’s got great size at the OL position and has some great pop with his initial punch. Greyton Gannon (Mukwonago) 6’4, 205 lbs. 2022. QB. vs. Oconomowoc Excellent read-option QB who is a great runner with the ball in his hands and a great athlete overall. He’s long and lean and sort of glides through the air when he runs, and he covers a lot of ground with his strides. As a passer he has a nice arm and a quick release, but he really shines as a runner and is exciting to watch. [player_tooltip player_id="31033" first="Drew" last="Jurack"] (Mukwonago) 6’0, 180 lbs. DB vs. Oconomowoc HS Low, strong tackler who closes space into ball-carriers well, and has a smooth backpedal and loose hips which he used to beautifully undercut a corner route in the endzone for a huge PBU. I really like what I see in run-support and pass-coverage. Nate Kollath (Hamilton) 6’3, 205 lbs. 2023. vs. Brookfield East HS Threw for over 200 yards and 2 TDs last Friday. There is SO much to like about the 2023 QB prospect, as he’s an ideal sized pocket-passer as only a sophomore and has clean footwork, a high release point, and throws a really accurate ball. Puts the ball on the money and can hit a receiver in-stride if need be. His stock is going to shoot up very soon so stay ready!
