Continue ReadingEight on the offensive linemen list, yet arguably the strongest and most powerful lineman of the bunch. I have witnessed his overwhelming strength both on tape and in person. Zafir will get labeled a “one-sided” lineman who is looking to maul any and everything in front of him. The description is somewhat appropriate, yet you see him flash good enough feet from time to time. If speed beats him off the edge, you can see him track back to DE/QB contact point to give effort in derailing an edge rusher’s path to the QB. It’s not just effort and motor, he succeeds in dropping 4-6 yards to redirect the rush. Let’s not sugarcoat things, this kid will win with power against any rusher in the state.
Pleased to see the tape put forth out of Downingtown East’s Adham Abouraya Adham Abouraya 6’5″ | 280 lbs | OL Downingtown East | 2024 State PA this past Fall. I see a ton of kids see their recruitment heat up in the summer, only to let it fizzle out with poor Fall tape. Adaham Abouraya didn’t let that happen. Once a top 100 debuter, now one spot outside of the top 25, Abouraya is drawing real interest from some of the more prominent programs in the country. The ACC and BIG10 are in on this young man, as are we. Abouraya might be the leanest linemen we have spotlighted thus far, yet his frame has to entice Power Five programs strictly based on his potential to be molded to a programs liking. Abouraya will be one of the linemen prospects whose combine numbers might make or break his stock.
Zachary Tomosovich Zachary Tomosovich 6’5″ | 320 lbs | OL Penn-Trafford | 2024 State PA closes out the top ten, he and the surrounding prospects are interchangeable, the rankings are splitting hairs from 7-15. Tomosovich earns the spot due to his 6’5, 320 frame that is both taller and more massive than the linemen listed below, while also seeing state-wide success at Penn-Trafford HS. Miami of Ohio and Toledo pulled the trigger on Tomosovich’s potential in the summer. Finally, we see a linemen with real position versatility. Tomosovich can align at either guard or tackle spot, while also providing game-wrecking reps at DL on occasion. Incredible drive wins with upper body strength early, closes out with awesome drive down low. A ton of displacement on his blocks. Not much on tape in the pass-protection end of the spectrum, you’re going to get a run-blocking mauler when courting Tomosovich.
Might only be a matter of time before the Pitt’s and the West Virginia’s of the world pull the trigger on West Mifflin product Rico Steele Rico Steele 6’4″ | 290 lbs | OL West Mifflin | 2024 State PA . Much like Tomosovich, Ohio programs like Akron and Toledo are in on his skillset, as they should be. Rico Steele Rico Steele 6’4″ | 290 lbs | OL West Mifflin | 2024 State PA provides more than an elite linemen name, he also provides punishing and violent reps on tape. Nearly every rep ends with Steele burying a kid that has no business lining up in front of him. Little bit of a mean streak being shown off by the junior. Position versatility would do his stock wonders, just in case future suitors prefer him kicked inside. I love technical linemen tape, Steele is going to show off violent tape instead.
Highlights
I’ll be honest, I personally like Kevin Towns Kevin Towns 6’4″ | 290 lbs | OL St. Joseph’s Prep | 2024 State PA around the 8-10 range as opposed to his current twelfth spot. As we get closer to the final rankings for these men, we have to take recruiting interest into account. Somehow, the stud right tackle for the best rushing attack in the state hasn’t seen the level of recruiting you’d think he should receive. There is hardly a reason to panic, yet it is a bit of a head-scratcher. The tape checks out, you see pass-pro sets that are encouraging. He flashes the ability to get to the second level and seal LBs. I’ve had the chance to see him work at our camps, his flexibility was hardly an issue in those settings. SJP keeps things in-house, so I could be wrong in thinking Towns isn’t being courted at this time. All this being said, Towns put forth an incredible year of tape, helping lead this program to yet another state championship. I might add that Towns accomplished all of this in his first season at SJP. Says something about his ability to be coached.
This is the name that I’ve been shouting from the mountaintops to anyone that will listen. Kelsey Hundley Kelsey Hundley 6’4″ | 255 lbs | OL Penn Hills | 2024 State PA will more than likely be recruited to play defensive line at the next level. 6’4, 255 pounds, Hundley is the leanest and lightest of any listed big man. Hundley boasts a 12-minute tape that shows off elite two-way reps. Elite hand placement, elite grip strength, his hands translate over from the wrestling mat. A ferocious and violent finisher on both sides of the ball. Depending on how his weight fluctuates, you could have a 4-3 DE that can fire off the edge with balance and speed. I can’t help but love his reps at left tackle. Motor revving to the whistle, Hundley is going to fly up recruiting boards just as fast as he’s putting kids into the dirt on tape. Excited to see what others think.
Jiavani Cooley Jiavani Cooley 6’6″ | 265 lbs | OL Cathedral Prep | 2024 State PA could be ranked higher if he pieced together his single-game tapes into one Junior tape for all of us to see. Toledo has seen enough to offer, I’d like to see more to truly give him top-ten OL consideration. Checking out his sophomore tape, you see how incredibly raw the young man was, I bet he’s cleaned up his total skillset since. A lot to like from a frame perspective. 6’6, 265. He’s got the power-forward size that FBS programs covet at the position. I want to see more from Cathedral Prep’s right tackle and defensive end.
