Every four weeks I like to take a look at the landscape of Class 4A football and come up with my own player rankings based on statistics. How I come up with my ratings is a system based on pro-football-reference.com’s "Approximate Value" system of ratings they use for overall performance during a season. For this article, I’m taking a look at my top 20 Class 4A Offensive Tackles and top 20 interior linemen.
*Stats are up to Week 4*
(Also, my top five linemen are all tackles, so I’m gonna start off with my top 20 tackles list)
Top 20 Offensive Tackles
#1. [player_tooltip player_id="23994" first="Liam" last="Becher"], Iowa City West, JR - 21.202
6’6, 290 lbs
Team Rushing YPG: 164.5 YPG
Team Passing YPG: 214.5 YPG
Highest Offers: N/A
Analysis: While ranking this high might’ve been benefitted due to the fact his school was only able to play just two games, regardless, [player_tooltip player_id="23994" first="Liam" last="Becher"] is a rising junior who should get some notice on the West O-Line. He’s physically imposing especially when he’s moving defenders out of the way for the run game.
#2. Justice Miller, Ankeny, SR - 17.967
6’1, 240 lbs
Team Rushing YPG: 253.25 YPG
Team Passing YPG: 175.25 YPG
Highest Offers: N/A
Analysis: Although he’s a one-year starter, Justice Miller has proven to be a solid piece on Ankeny’s dominant offense. He’s a physical blindside tackle that can grade the road just as well as he can protect the passer.
#3. Joe Kingston, Ankeny, SO - 14.489
6’2, 285 lbs
Team Rushing YPG: 253.25 YPG
Team Passing YPG: 175.25 YPG
Highest Offers: N/A
Analysis: On the other side of the Hawks o-line sits a rising sophomore who could be a major player over the next couple of seasons. He’s a big, solid tackle that can keep the edge rushers at bay.
#4. [player_tooltip player_id="23865" first="Drew" last="Hoth"], Cedar Falls, SR - 13.938
6’5, 303 lbs
Team Rushing YPG: 223.25 YPG
Team Passing YPG: 86.75 YPG
Committed: Northern Illinois (8/9/20)
Analysis: Hoth has been a key cog in Cedar Falls’s offense since last season, and is getting his due with a scholarship to Northern Illinois. When he’s running downhill for the block for the run game, you better get out of his way.
#5. [player_tooltip player_id="24023" first="Kadyn" last="Proctor"], Southeast Polk, SO - 13.720
6’7, 285 lbs
Team Rushing YPG: 262.75 YPG
Team Passing YPG: 168.25 YPG
Highest Offers: Power-5 (Arizona State, Arkansas, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas State, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State)
Analysis: One of the most hyped-up Iowa prospects in recent memory, [player_tooltip player_id="24023" first="Kadyn" last="Proctor"] has been crucial to Southeast Polk’s 4-0 start. This guy is a brick wall when protecting the QB and excellent when setting up holes for the running backs.
