Time to give the underrated receivers the spotlight before the series of top players at each position without an offer is complete. The final position to highlight will be the kickers. Look out for these five seniors receivers in a combined list of tight ends and wide receivers come this January. Wonya Williams – Cosumnes Oaks – Wide Receiver 2019 Stats The section’s receiving yard leader by all juniors from last season will be with the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack for his senior season. He puts pressure on defensive backs with his ability to accelerate for separation on long passes and catching the ball in traffic. Williams primarily plays on the outside but can be relied on for a 10-yard gain as a slot receiver. With two-star recruit quarterback Anthony Grigsby also heading into his senior season, the Wolfpack as a team have a chance to be the top receiving team in the section. Watch the Tape Jacob Hall – Jesuit – Wide Receiver 2019 Stats Hall is a versatile receiver playing X, Z, and most of the time in the slot position. He can get off the line quickly and uses his speed to change directions on the route. Hall is a tough player with the ability to make a tricky catch then break tackles attempted by defensive backs or linebackers. He can also produce on the defensive side of the ball as a DB. Behind [player_tooltip player_id="25156" first="Nathan" last="Lewis"], Hall finished with the second-most receiving yards for Jesuit and tied with Lewis for the most receiving touchdowns in 2019. Watch the Tape Brandon Barthel – Oak Ridge – Wide Receiver 2019 Stats The Oak Ridge Trojans as a team had the second-most receiving yards in the section with quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="25099" first="Justin" last="Lamson"] finishing tenth for passing yards among juniors in the state. Barthel was one of his main targets as he displays excellent route-running abilities with great hands and footwork. He plays both X and Z receiver and can separate from the cornerbacks making him a deep threat. On short and immediate routes, he finds a way to get open and shows the ability to accelerate for additional yards on the play. His performance on the field made him one of the top receivers in the Sierra Foothill League and All-Metro honorable mention. Watch the Tape Mikaiah Stephenson – Cosumnes Oaks – Tight End 2019 Stats According to 247Sports, Stephenson was new to the gridiron last season as he played for Cosumnes Oaks basketball during his freshman and sophomore year. Stephenson was able to flash his athletic ability and already show the potential to play at the next level. He has height, great hands, and a big frame that will be more developed during his senior season. Some of his noted skills are catching inaccurate passes and blocking with strength to put defenders on the ground. Look for Stephenson to rise quickly early in the season as the Wolfpack schedule includes Oak Ridge, Monterey Trail, and Mater Dei in three of their first four games. Watch the Tape Donovan Laban – Grant Union – Tight End 2019 Stats Laban is exceptionally under-recruited while he as a two-star prospect and at a storied program such as Grant. He is hard to cover, displays toughness to make a catch, and has tremendous footwork to keep the play alive. Statistics on MaxPreps only present seven games, but he averaged 30.9 yards a game and averaged 16.6 yards on each reception. On defense, Laban is a middle linebacker and brings this physicality to offense blocking for the ball carrier. Watch the Tape
