The sophomore crop of quarterbacks in the St. Louis area is among the best that I have seen in the last 20 years over covering high school football. There were several 2025's in 2022 that started and put up very good numbers in helping their teams have successful season. Here I take a look at five in 2025 who are on the rise.

[player_tooltip player_id='299504' first='Carson' last='Boyd'] | 6'0" 175 | Cardinal Ritter |

Boyd transferred to Ritter from East St. Louis (IL) and competed with junior [player_tooltip player_id='130163' first='Antwon' last='McKay'] in the off season and early season for the job. It was obvious that Boyd was going to be hard to keep off the field with his skill set of arm, accuracy and decision making ability. Soon he began seeing more and more time on behind center and it has paid off for the Lions who will play for the Class 3 state championship on Friday. Boyd in slitting action has thrown for 1,377 yards and a whopping 26 touchdowns vs only 3 picks on the year while completing 73 of 95 pass attempts for another eye popping 73.8% completion rate. He's a smooth signal caller who first caught my attention as a 7th grader with his potential. Look for big things form him over the next two years.

[player_tooltip player_id='1124889' first='Jack' last='Behl'] | 5'11" 185 | Lafayette |

Behl had a great first season as the starting quarterback of the Lancers in leading them to a 7-4 record on the season. The heady young gunslinger put up some big numbers along the way and finished the season throwing for 2,577 yards and 25 touchdowns with 11 interceptions on 196 of 306 pass attempts for a 62% completion rate. Jack has a strong arm and quick release. He does a nice job staying in the pocket and finding his receivers. Look for him to continue to have success with most of his top weapons to throw to returning.

[player_tooltip player_id='1117607' first='Hoyt' last='Gregory'] | 6'3" 215 | North Point |

Gregory had one of the best seasons of a dual threat QB in the area. He has great size and strength with a big arm and nice running ability. He continues to hone his skills but is well on his way to being a prospect colleges will need to look at after throwing for 1,621 yards and 18 touchdowns against only 4 picks on 119 of 192 passing attempts for a 62% completion rate. He was also his Grizzlies leading rusher toting the rock 177 times for 880 yards and 5 more touchdowns, for an yards per carry average of five yards.

Mike Gerdine | 5'8" 160 | Lutheran St. Charles |

Gerdine took over and replaced a 3,000 yard passer who graduated from the Cougars state championship team and did a great job leading them to a winning season and throwing for 1,650 yards and 18 touchdowns verses only 3 interceptions on 92 of 178 passing for 52% completion rate. He also picked up 178 yards rushing while averaging 4 yards per carry. Look for this young QB to continue to improve heading into next season.

Dakkari Hollis | 6'1" 185 | Lutheran North |

Hollis showed glimpses as a freshman that I saw ofwhat was to come but played behind a future D1 quarterback. This year after taking over the reins he showed what he could do by throwing for 1,584 yards and 14 touchdowns against 8 picks, connecting on 118 of 208 pass attempts for a 55% completion rate. The athletic gunslinger also carried the ball 49 times for 261 yards and 3 scores averaging 5.3 yards per carry in leading his Crusaders to a 6-4 record. Dakarri is very skilled for his young age and makes it look easy at times. He has a very strong arm and throws a nice deep ball.
