We did a short Q&A with Tyan about all aspects of his game, what he is looking for at the next level, and much more!
Q) Which schools are you interested in at the next level?
Tyan: Mount Marty-They have shown a lot of interest in me so far. I am interested in any school interested in me at this point in time.
Q) What are your main positions and what are some assets to your game that college coaches need to know about you?
Tyan: I play wide receiver and I return kicks for the Scoopers. I have worked on my mental game and worrying about what I need to worry about at the moment as far as a game-time decision as mental toughness is a big part of my game.
Q) What are your favorite things about playing Wide Receiver?
Tyan: I love wide receiver due to the simplicity of playing the position. In man coverage, you just have to beat the DB on 1v1 coverage and catch the football in stride.
Q) What is your elevator pitch to those college coaches reading on PRZ Dakotas about what you can bring to the table for their college football program?
Tyan: I have the demeanor to show up every day without quitting especially when I am competing against another player in the rotation. I am always going to work hard, I am just out here to compete here on the gridiron and give it my best.
Q) What is something from the 2022 season you are looking to build on whether that is watching tape, etc.?
Tyan: I want to develop on pressing my routes with my vertical. I plan on working on developing my game when I get double-teamed, as I have been double-teamed a handful of times this year. Also, improving on my route-running and other skillsets it takes to be a good wide receiver.
Q) Who is your football mentor?
Tyan: My brother Taylor Buus for sure. He played college football at the South Dakota School of Mines and he has helped me thru my early recruiting trail. Taylor is also our strength and conditioning coach at Sturgis which is nice. We work a lot on the field as well, based on what we see from practice film or game film, he’s always down to go down to the field with me and work on those things we see on tape.
Q) What did you learn about yourself as a player in the 2022 season?
Tyan: Mental toughness is a big one. The 2022 season showed me how much I can compete at the WR position. Having that growing mentality to take that part of my game to the next level for those who say you can or cannot do this or that at your size, etc. is one of the biggest things I learned going into this offseason.
Tyan Buus Tyan Buus 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Pierre TF Riggs | 2024 State SD Tape Evaluation:
The athleticism Tyan brings with his route-running can be described as smooth. He shows some finished running ability as a pass-catcher with sizeable stamina to not get run down on his longer routes. He also has a MUCH longer reach than his measurables will show you, as he can stretch with balance around the sidelines. Watching him in 1v1 coverage this young man has growing ball-tracing instincts with his vertical and timing to get the ball in the air with small amounts of space around the sideline. Tyan also shows off versatility, as you can move him around as an X or Y receiver and he’ll continue having success. I think due to his excellent hands, the next-level points him out coming out of the slot, as although not having the fastest burst out of his route, he shows a lot of that mental toughness in small areas to effectively make any catch you throw at him in the air or lower to the ground. Tyan also has the creative gene for short routes to create his own route when the defender is guarding him tightly, he can use his change of direction to get out of that high-traffic area to still find success and the ball in the end zone. I believe this young man has a high football IQ which will paint a solid picture of bringing his game to the next level on Saturdays. Developing more on his burst out of his route will also help him grow his game for the Sturgis Brown Scoopers.
