First up to the plate is Sturgis Brown middle linebacker Reese Jacobs who will be taking his talents south to Chadron State of the RMAC in the coming 2023 season. We did a little Q&A with Reese about his commitment, and much more as we broke down his commitment to the Eagles in this Commitment Report!
Q) What impacted your decision to commit to Chadron State?
Reese: The biggest influence was the coaches, they are great down there. I also think their defensive scheme is really great and I think it’s a good fit for me and the school in general is also a good fit for me.
Q) Was there any other college football programs that were in the mix with your recruitment?
Reese: Yes, South Dakota School of Mines, Black Hills State, and Mount Marty all showed high interest, but Chadron was the best deal to me financially and as a whole as a program.
Q) What is the biggest football adjustment you need to make to get from the HS to the college level?
Reese: Probably going to need to get a lot bigger, faster, and stronger. However, I think I will pick up their scheme pretty easily and it will good time to think.
Q) What did you do throughout this 2022 season to fuel your college football future at Chadron State?
Reese: I really focused on my leadership this year trying to be a good leader and I put in a lot of extra work in the weight room and the offseason. I reached out to a good amount of coaches and sent over my tape, those were the major steps that I took.
Q) What are you looking forward to most at Chadron outside of Football?
Reese: It is a small town and I don’t mind that at all. Everybody knows everybody in the town. Academics-wise, they have everything I need. I am just really pumped to go down there and meet new people and play some football.
Q) What are you planning on majoring in at Chadron State?
Reese: Business.
Reese Jacobs Tape Evaluation
There is a ton to love about Reese’s vision when he pops into that next level of the field. His natural instinct pops out extremely early in coverage, and his ability to thoroughly recognize his attacking angle in the gap he chooses speaks dividends about his game. Do not let the size (5’10 190) fool you, as Reese has a sound contact level and as a two-time All-State Champion wrestler, has no issue popping the ball carrier right in the mouth consistently on every play. His ability to seal the edge and use his range paints a solid picture as a middle linebacker at the next level for the Eagles. You just don’t see linebackers at Reese’s size with the physicality and strength he has come around too often, as the Eagles got a steal in this kid by continuously recruiting the West River of South Dakota well. His natural instinct should develop a ton in pass coverage as Reese already has a quick trigger with his feet for the next level.
