A few programs have the week off while others are finally starting their season this weekend. The first two weeks have been great, and week three has a great set of games scheduled as well.
Here are a few great matchups across the weekend in the peach state.
Grayson vs. Collins Hill:
This major 7A matchup could feature two teams who can make it deep into the playoffs this year. The Rams are always talented and are loaded with young talent and one of the state’s best running backs in 2021 Clemson commitment Phil Mafah Phil Mafah 6'1" | 213 lbs | RB Grayson | 2021 State GA . The Rams also have sophomore Michael Daughtery on defense, but he’ll have a tough task ahead of him trying to cover elite ATH Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA of Collins Hill. The Sam Horn Sam Horn 6'4" | 190 lbs | QB Collins Hill | 2022 State GA – Travis Hunter Travis Hunter 6'1" | 165 lbs | ATH Collins Hill | 2022 State GA connection has been deadly so far this year, and they’ll be tough to defend again this weekend. The Rams have won a state championship in recent years, and Collins Hill is looking to take the crown. They have the offense to make it happen, but first they’ll have to beat Grayson, one of the best teams in the state.
Marietta at McEachern:
The powerful McEachern Indians haven’t started the season the way they had hoped with an 0-2 start, but they’ll have a chance to bounce back at home against the reigning 7A champions in arch-rival Marietta. Both schools are starting 2022 QBs and are getting better each week. Bryce Archie Bryce Archie 6'3" | 190 lbs | QB McEachern | 2022 State GA and the Indians have played two tough games so far, and while Marietta won’t be a cake walk, this is a game that matches up well for them. The Blue Devils have plenty of young talent, but they’ll rely on 2022 athlete Daniel Martin Daniel Martin 6'3" | 190 lbs | LB Marietta | 2022 State GA at both linebacker and wide receiver if they hope to pull out a big win on the road.
Walton vs. Brookwood:
You want a game with fire-power? Look no further than Brookwood and North Cobb. The Broncos of Brookwood have one of the state’s best passing attacks led by 2023 QB Dylan Longeran and 2022 receivers De’Nylon Morrissette and Sam Mbake. Both are weapons on the outside who hold SEC offers. The Broncos also have 2022 DB Marquis Groves-Killebrew Marquis Groves-Killebrew 6'0" | 180 lbs | DB Brookwood | 2022 State GA , one of the state’s top cornerbacks who is verbally committed to play at Georgia. The Walton Raiders have 2022 DB Marcus Allen Marcus Allen 6'2" | 165 lbs | DB Walton | 2022 State GA on their side who could be asked to play both ways this weekend. If Allen can make an impact on both sides of the ball, the Raiders have a chance to pull off the upset at home.
North Cobb at Alpharetta:
The North Cobb Warriors have a superstar on their hands in 2023 QB Micah Singleton. The big 6-foot-3 205-pound dual-threat playmaker is coming off a career game last week where he led North Cobb to one of the biggest wins in program history over Buford. He’s a great runner who can run through defenses already as a sophomore and his arm continues to get stronger and more accurate. He’s got a few offers already, but he’ll have many more after he gets more film. He’ll go up against a tough Alpharetta defense led by 2021 safety and Stanford commitment, Jaden Slocum Jaden Slocum 6'2" | 185 lbs | DB Alpharetta | 2021 State GA .
