If there’s one group that has shined in the first couple of weeks of the season it’s the defensive back group. With offenses throwing the ball and spreading it out more and more, defensive backs now have plenty of opportunities to make plays against the pass. Many "under the radar" defensive backs have started to step up and take that next step in their career. &nbsp; <strong>Jayson Gilliom - North Gwinnett</strong> The North Gwinnett athlete may still be the most underrated prospect in the state. He was the talk of the offseason due to his 6-foot-2 190-pound frame to go along with his athleticism. He started the season off with a bang against McEachern, recording a 95-yard pick 6. He has great ball skills, good size, and he knows how to cover. The Bulldogs lost elite senior cornerback [player_tooltip player_id="33662" first="Jordan" last="Hancock"] due to Covid-19 concerns, and Gilliom has filled those shoes very well so far this season. Look for the Furman commitment to continue making big plays the rest of the season. &nbsp; <strong>Kobe Haynes - West Forsyth</strong> The hybrid Wolverine defender missed most of his junior season last fall but has come back strong to start the 2020 season. At 6-foot-0 200-pounds, Haynes is a strong kid who has a true nose for the football. He showed this past weekend that he’s back to full strength against a good Cartersville team, recording multiple tackles and showing that he can come down and blitz the QB. He got off blocks well, he can dissect the play before it happens, and he’s brought more leadership with the up-and-coming Wolverine defense. &nbsp; <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="33657" first="Nyland" last="Green"] - Newton</strong> The Newton (GA) star can’t be labeled as "under the radar" as he is ranked as one of the top CB prospects in the country. After not having a game in week one, Green proved why he’s one of the nation’s best in a big week 2 performance to start the season. The elite playmaker caught a 72-yard TD pass on offense and then returned a kickoff back for a touchdown as well. He’s an incredible playmaker with the ball in his hands, but he’ll be playing in the secondary on the next level. As a defender, Green helped the Newton defense record a shut-out in a big 27-0 win over Alcovy.
