Every year we get to our Preseason WPIAL Picks. With Covid-19, we didn’t get a chance to see teams how we normally do, but we still have great confidence in our picks.

A: Clairton over OLSH: Never go against The Clairton Bears. The Bears have a great offensive line and skills players to take them over the top. ‘21 OL [player_tooltip player_id="27262" first="Da’Metrius" last="Weatherspoon"] and RB ‘21 Isiah Berry are the go-to guys here. ‘21 LB [player_tooltip player_id="27358" first="Dontae" last="Sanders"] is a presence in the middle as well.

A: Wash High over Serra Catholic: Boston College commit [player_tooltip player_id="27208" first="Andre" last="Porter"] transferred in from D.C. and has been the talk of the WPIAL. The Prexies have dominated 2A and I expect that to continue. Serra Catholic has a lot of good young bucks highlighted by ‘22 DB [player_tooltip player_id="27596" first="Pharoh" last="Fisher"] and ‘22 WR Jayvon Campbell Holt.

A: Central Valley over Beaver Falls: The State runner ups in 3A return QB [player_tooltip player_id="27219" first="Ameer" last="Dudley"], Safety [player_tooltip player_id="27203" first="Stephon" last="Hall"], and WR Myles Walker. They have a star studded group in the class of 2022 as well. Beaver Falls totes Syracuse commit [player_tooltip player_id="27202" first="Josh" last="Hough"] who might be the best RB in the state. Beaver Falls has a good bunch of ‘22s as well lead by LB Tyler Cain. 3A comes down to these two Beaver County powers.

A: South Fayette over Thomas Jefferson: TJ has been on a run in 4A, but I think South Fayette takes over this year as TJ is young this year. YSU commit [player_tooltip player_id="27398" first="Preston" last="Zandier"] will be a force though. South Fayette has gunslinger QB Naman Amendola with weapons [player_tooltip player_id="27360" first="Charley" last="Rossi"] and [player_tooltip player_id="27373" first="Joey" last="Audia"]. Protecting him is probably the most improved player in the WPIAL in OT [player_tooltip player_id="27271" first="Ryan" last="O’Hair"].

A: Gateway over Pine-Richland: What a dream matchup this would be. Woodland Hills, Penn Hills, and Peters Township are also in contention. The best player in the WPIAL wont be denied. RB/SAF [player_tooltip player_id="27188" first="Derrick" last="Davis"] should lead the Gators to glory again. [player_tooltip player_id="27561" first="Patrick" last="Body"] and [player_tooltip player_id="27377" first="Shane" last="Thrift"] round out the best secondary in Western PA. Pine Richland has one of the best QBs in the state in [player_tooltip player_id="27363" first="Cole" last="Spencer"], so this has a Showdown written all over it.

A: North Allegheny over Central Catholic: We love NA this year. TE/OLB [player_tooltip player_id="27196" first="Khalil" last="Dinkins"] is a difference maker on offense, and teamed up in the box with ‘21 BYU commit [player_tooltip player_id="27254" first="Nate" last="Hoke"] makes them the deadliest duo in the WPIAL. Central Catholic will rely on ‘21 RB [player_tooltip player_id="27348" first="Eddy" last="Tillman"] as their bell-cow, but they lost their entire defensive line from last year after [player_tooltip player_id="27190" first="Elliot" last="Donald"] has opted out of the season. It’s the year of the Tiger.
