Top shuttle times from the Friday Night Lights Combine

Last Friday at Mullen High School, a group of coaches, trainers and timers that included Athletafied and Pivotal Sports Performance hosted a free combine for high school seniors to record verified times and marks to send to coaches. Prospects in the Class of 2021 like Ralston Valley linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="22640" first="Will" last="Lester"], who has an offer from Missouri Western State, have seen their recruitment slowed by a coronavirus-related combination of dead periods, the postponement of Colorado’s football season to the spring and a lack of camps or other opportunities to show what they can do. Lester and many others were grateful for Friday’s event and a chance to get measured and add 40-yard dash, broad jump, shuttle and vertical leap numbers to their recruiting resumes. “This is just making the best of what it is,” Lester said. “If we don’t have a season, you know, at least these people were out here and are nice enough to put this on for us to give us something. You just have to play with the cards you’re dealt and this should help us.” Nearly 100 athletes showed up for Friday’s free event and many impressed. Check out all the highlights from the 40-yard dash and broad jump. Here is a look at who ran the top 10 shuttle times, as well as a complete list of the times each player ran. Wyatt Price, 5’11.5, 193.6 lbs, 74.5” wingspan – 4.17 Price sure did have a great night at the combine, finishing top five in every test except the vertical leap, in which he still impressed with a 29.5-inch jump. Clearly among the most dynamic athletes at Mullen last Friday, the Fountain-Fort Carson quarterback accounted for 495 yards of total offense as a junior, throwing for 337 yards and five touchdowns while rushing for 158 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also played some linebacker and finished the season with seven tackles and a sack on defense. https://twitter.com/Wyatt58287866/status/1193364663087579136 [player_tooltip player_id="22597" first="Hall" last="Edmonds"], 5’10.25, 203.2 lbs, 72.25” wingspan – 4.2 One of the top linebackers in Colorado, Edmonds spent last Friday evening showing why. Especially considering how big and strong he is, the Broomfield middle linebacker more than passed each test while putting up impressive numbers in terms of speed and agility. He ran sub-five (4.92) in the 40-yard dash on the slow offseason grass at Mullen, jumped 25.5 inches in the vertical leap and, of course, did his part to chew up the football field in the shuttle. Edmonds, who has an offer from Western Missouri State heading into his senior season, was second on the Eagles defense with 95 tackles in 2019. He also had a sack and a half and will anchor that unit again when high school football returns to Colorado. https://twitter.com/hall_edmonds/status/1202448633699995648 [player_tooltip player_id="46109" first="Colin" last="Stuhr"], 5’10, 220 lbs, 74” wingspan – 4.21 Stuhr’s dynamic athleticism is a big part of what makes him such a versatile athlete capable of playing a number of different defensive positions. He runs well and has good lateral quickness at 220 points, which is a big reason he racked up 87 tackles and 14 tackles for a loss as a junior last fall. An aggressive yet intelligent player, Stuhr also had 8.5 sacks and four interceptions to go with a fumble forced and another recovered in 2019. The Dakota Ridge defense has an exciting core of players returning for the upcoming season and Stuhr certainly is a huge piece of the puzzle. https://twitter.com/colinstuhr3/status/1207806176999526400 Jack Whittaker, 5’10.75, 186 lbs, 72.5” wingspan – 4.25 Whittaker is a multi-dimensional player for Lutheran, to say the least. The senior is a two-way lineman who also plays wide receiver. Now, that’s not a combination you see very often. On both defense and special teams, he excels in pursuit of the ball carrier and finished last season with 44 totals tackles and 7.5 for a loss. https://twitter.com/_jackwhitt_/status/1198803688480886784 [player_tooltip player_id="22558" first="Christopher" last="Bowerfind"], 5’11, 202.4 lbs, 75.25” wingspan – 4.28 Just take a quick scroll through his twitter account and you’ll see just how much work the Fossil Ridge running back/athlete recruit has been putting in this summer to add size and strength for the next level. Among the strongest athletes at the combine, Bowerfind tested well in every category, including a 115-inch broad jump and a 4.96 40-yard dash time on the tall offseason grass at Mullen. As a junior in 2019, Bowerfind rushed for over 500 yards and scored seven touchdowns and appears primed for a big season when the high school football season returns. https://twitter.com/ChrisBowerfind/status/1194069612486225920 Aaron Toney, 5’9.75, 147 lbs, 74” wingspan – 4.33 The Rampart senior also showed well in all the tests at Mullen and should be a key player for the Rams as either a cornerback or a wide receiver. As a junior, he finished the season with seven tackles, including two for a loss, and also had a fumble forced and another recovered. Andrew Brent, 6’0, 166.4 lbs, 69.5” wingspan – 4.34 Brent has good speed as a defensive back and special teams gunner at Rock Canyon. At the combine, he showed that speed with a sub-five (4.89) 40 time and a 4.34 shuttle time. He also hit 93 inches in the broad jump and 29 inches in the vertical leap, so it was an overall good showing for Brent. Jens Anderson, 6’0, 181.8 lbs, 73.5” wingspan – 4.34 Anderson impressed in every event at the Friday Night Lights combine – he ran the fastest 40-yard dash time – after carrying the ball 69 times for 275 yards as a junior last season. He also hit 116 inches in the broad jump and 31 inches in the vertical leap, putting him in if not close to the top five in all four tests. The Castle View senior certainly will be a player to watch when high school football returns to Colorado in the spring. CJ Smith, 5’9, 182.4 lbs, 72.25” wingspan – 4.36 Smith is coming off a breakout 2019 season in which he was second on his Mullen team with 311 rushing yards on 68 carries. He scored six touchdowns and figures to be the Mustangs’ lead back heading into the 2020 season. At the combine, Smith looked like he’s ready to step up into a bigger offensive role, running a 4.93 40 time in the tall grass and 4.36 in the shuttle. He also jumped 103.25 inches in the broad jump and 31.5 inches in the vertical leap. https://twitter.com/cjsmithjrr/status/1195848993093369857 [player_tooltip player_id="22624" first="Micah" last="Nanninga"], 6’6.25, 199.2 lbs, 78.5” wingspan – 4.38 A dual-sport athlete at Castle View, Smith has the height, length and frame to play either football or basketball at the next level. At the combine, he showed excellent sped, quickness and explosiveness to go with his size. As a junior defensive end last season, Nanninga finished with 36 total tackles, 6.5 sacks and six quarterback hurries. He also deflected two passes and caused four fumbles. https://twitter.com/MicahNanninga/status/1251570076177719297 Complete list of shuttle times (alphabetical) <img
