Here are a few tight end prospects to know in the 2022 class.
Jake Johnson Jake Johnson 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Maize South | 2021 State KS – Oconee County
Johnson is no newcomer as it relates to recruiting. The 6-foot-5 210-pounder has held offers from his early high school days and has become a top target for schools like Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Florida, Clemson, among others. His brother Max is a freshman quarterback at LSU, but Johnson remains open to everyone at this time. An excellent receiver, Johnson is a major weapon in the passing game due to his reliable hands and athletic ability. He comes from a football family and has been around the game his entire life. He’s one of the most athletic tight end prospects in the 2022 class and will push for the top tight end spot nationally down the road.
Marlin Klein Marlin Klein 6'6" | 215 lbs | TE Rabun Gap-Nacoochee | 2022 State GA – Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School
At 6-foot-6 205-pounds, Klein is a big bodies playmaker who has seen his recruitment really take off in the last few weeks. He’s a tough player who knows how block on the perimeter and make space for the ball carrier. He has good speed for his size and shows great ball skills in the passing game. He’s not the most natural runner and still needs to develop his route running, but it’s easy to see the potential that he has with his size, length, toughness, and solid hands. Klein holds early offers from Georgia, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Boston College, among others.
Holden Staes Holden Staes 6'4" | 210 lbs | TE Westminster | 2022 State GA – Westminister
The Atlanta native from Westminister School has quickly become one of the hottest tight end prospects in the South. After seeing his recruitment blow up this spring, the big 6-foot-4 220-pounder chose Penn State over Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, among others. As a sophomore last fall, the 1st-team All-Region star has reliable hands and knows how to make a tough catch in traffic. He’s not the fastest tight end around, but his ability to make plays in the passing game is one of his strengths. He still needs to work on creating separation on his routes, but his big hands make him a true weapon in the passing game. He is a decent blocker as well and plays until the whistle. Look for him to put up even better numbers this fall.
