We started yesterday with small schools, 8-player, Class A, and Class 1A. Today we look at 2A, 3A, and 4A and see who were the top performers.
Class 2A
There were many outstanding performances during week 1 of the Class 2A season, but two athletes were standouts.
Aaron Salazar, Sioux Center – We started with Salazar. He recorded eight tackles, three sacks, and five tackles for a loss – which was the top in the Class.
Andrew Snyder, Forest City – Junior dominated week 1 in class 2A; Snyder is our other top performer. He recorded 11 tackles – 8 solos, 1.5 sacks, and four tackles for a loss.
Brandon Tomkins, Union – The senior corner was the top tackler in the Class this week; he recorded 17 – 13 solo tackles.
Pat Hennessy, Waukon – Could light up some radars this fall, and he started with a good week 1. He continued the junior domination with 7.5 tackles, two sacks, and four tackles for a loss.
Just as our small schools yesterday, three interceptions seemed to be the number. Two Class 2A defenders snagged two picks; Nick Clark from Cherokee and Jordan Severs from Hampton-Dumont-CAL.
Class 3A
Assumption’s DE Evan Forker racked stellar numbers as the top performer in Class 3A. He recorded eight tackles, three sacks, and four tackles for a loss.
Slade Sibenaller, Carroll – The 2021 QB/LB recruit racked up 7.5 tackles for a loss. He also recorded 11 total tackles – 10 solo and one sack. His teammate Ty Niessen also recorded 7.5 tackles and 5.5 tackles for a loss.
Jadyn Peyton, West Delaware – He recorded 11.5 tackles – 9 solo and five tackles for a loss for the junior LB.
Two interceptions were the number in Class 3A; two defenders picked the QB off twice. Will Larson from Fort Madison and Colby Burg from Creston. Larson went 18 yards with his two returns, and neither of them found the endzone.
Class 4A

Elijah Mickey Elijah Mickey 6'1" | 190 lbs | LB Cedar Falls | 2021 IA , Cedars Falls – Mickey is the top 4A defender this week. The senior LB recorded 15 tackles – 14 solo, four sacks, and an interception.
Nate Oswalt, Dubuque Senior – He recorded 8.5 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 3.5 tackles for a loss.
Mo Simpson, Iowa City West – Simpson tied Oswalt for the Class lead in sacks with 2.5. He added five tackles and three tackles for a loss.
Two 4A corners were able to snag two interceptions this week. Dowling Catholic’s Austin Klein and Sioux City East corner DaVares Whitaker each grabbed two picks. Whitaker went for six with one of his interceptions; he ran 98-yards, a Sioux City East school-record.
