Breakout South Georgia Defensive Backs To Know

More players are emerging in the area and there are some top defensive backs who have been turning heads this fall.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Who are they? Let's take a look...</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Timothy Roberson - Valdosta</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of the most historic programs in the country, the Valdosta Wildcats have one of the top breakout defenders this year in the secondary in Timothy Roberson. The impressive 6-foot-0 180-pound defensive back has been a ball-hawk this season, picking off 7 passes and taking two of them back for touchdowns. A true sleeper prospect, Roberson has shown D1 talent this year and could see some new offers come his way sooner than later. He's reliable in coverage, and when the ball is in the air, he knows how to make a play on it. The playmaking senior is a smart defender who knows where he needs to be. He's a special talent and a true breakout defensive back in South Georgia. He's also a track star for the Wildcats and comped in state last spring in both the 4X4 and 200-meter. He's a defensive back to keep an eye on for the rest of the season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Kamron Mikell - Statesboro</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A tremendous athlete who can line up at multiple positions, Mikell is having a giant September on the recruiting trail and has played like one of the best 2024 athletes in South Georgia so far this year. A tough, physical player, Mikell is a natural runner and has big-play potential with the ball in his hands on offense. However, it's likely he'll play on defense at the next level and he's shown to be an excellent defensive back prospect due to his 6-foot-2 180-pound frame and ball skills. He's a sure-tackler in the secondary with plenty of muscle on his frame. He's strong, physical, and can really help defend the run. He's also reliable in coverage and has picked off two passes so far this year. He's one of the top cornerback prospects in South Georgia and will likely climb the 2024 rankings in the next update.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><a href="https://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/zymorian-jackson/t2zySQLREeyAz5TgcHt2rg/football/stats.htm">Zymorian Jackson</a> - Crisp County</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another promising defensive back from Crisp County, Jackson has been excellent in coverage this year and has intercepted three passes so far this year in the secondary. He may not be the biggest defensive back, but he plays much bigger than his size. He's a physical tackler and has a true nose for the football against the run. A rangy, instinctive cornerback, Jackson closes well on the ball and reads the quarterback well in coverage. He's also a threat to score when picking off passes and has taken two INTs back for touchdowns this year. So far this season, the Crisp County cornerback has made 27 tackles and 3 TFLs to go along with his three INTs. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Kevis Thomas - Lowndes</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A true two-way player and a big-time playmaker for the Lowndes Vikings, Thomas is quick, twitchy, and had excellent speed. Playing on both sides of the ball, Thomas hasn't lit up the stat sheet defensively, but he's shown the ability to tackle, run down the ball-carrier, and break up passes. He reacts well with the ball in the air and has great ball skills that help him as both a receiver and a defensive back. He's excellent in coverage, but he has no problem coming down and helping in the run game. His ability to chase down the ball-carrier down the field also stands out. He's an experienced veteran for the Vikings and a reliable player every time he's on the field. Thomas is currently committed to Maryland and easily one of the top defensive back prospects in South Georgia.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
