A long wide receiver who accelerates after the catch. This guy has tremendous body control and plucks the ball out of the air. He could end up playing safety or nickel at the next level.
QB: Nathan Hayes Nathan Hayes 6'4" | 195 lbs | QB St. Charles East | 2022 State IL , 6’4, 195, St. Charles East, JR
This ball jumps out of this kid’s hand. For a bigger quarterback prospect, he’s a natural at extending plays and can throw on the run with ease. His greatest strength is his deep ball touch.
DL: Jireh Mays Jireh Mays 6'2" | 320 lbs | DL East St. Louis | 2022 State IL , 6’2, 315, East St. Louis, JR
Mays is so twitchy for a big man and features a great first step. He’s tough to single block and is a strong hand fighter. It wasn’t uncommon to see this guy driving interior offensive linemen into the backfield.
WR: Quentrell Harris Quentrell Harris 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Nazareth | 2022 State IL , 6’1, 175, Lyons, JR
I’m shocked that this kid doesn’t have an offer right now! His leaping ability is uncanny and he’s got strong hands in traffic. He’s one of the state’s best route runners and all he did was produce in 2019. Look for another big year in 2021.
WR: Tristin Duncan Tristin Duncan 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Effingham | 2021 IL , 6’3, 185, Effingham, SR
Right now, Duncan has one FCS offer from Fordham and I think he’s bound to pick up some more offers. The production was there last fall, as he went for 1,436 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior. The kid has good build speed up and can run under almost any deep ball.
RB: Jahari Scott Jahari Scott 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB Lake Forest | 2022 State IL , 6’, 165, Lake Forest, JR
Not many people know about this kid yet, and I’m not sure exactly why. Jahari has terrific balance that he uses to shed tacklers and pure breakaway speed. There’s no wasted movements in his cuts and his vision is on par with some of the state’s top FBS backs.
OL: Aidan Tweedy, 6’4, 260, Oswego, SR
I saw Tweedy’s film a few months back and really liked what I was saw. Then I was told he’s put on thirty pounds this offseason! Couple that with tremendous feet, solid knee bend, and an aggressive mentality; I think you have a Division one tackle.
WR: Eli Reed, 5’11, 180, Downers Grove South, JR
This kid is so explosive getting in and out of his breaks. He’s a crafty route runner who lulls DB’s to sleep before bursting behind coverage. He’s a redzone nightmare and someone who has the potential to play on the outside or in the slot.
RB: Josh Dornink Josh Dornink 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Batavia | 2022 State IL , 5’10, 180, Batavia, JR
Batavia scored the transfer of the offseason when they picked up Josh Dornink Josh Dornink 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Batavia | 2022 State IL from Aurora Christian. The thing that standouts to me the most is his versatility. This kid can lineup at running back or wide receiver and be the best player on the field. He’s got good speed and really soft hands.
LB: Michael Gaughan Michael Gaughan 6'0" | 200 lbs | LB St. Rita | 2021 IL , 6’, 205, St. Rita, SR
I feel like I write about this kid every week and I probably will continue to do so until he gets an FBS offer. Gaughan was recently named to the Butkus Award watchlist, an award given to the top overall linebacker in the country. All this guy did was make play after play in 2019, and I’m sure he’s going to have an even bigger 2021 season.
WR: Jashawn Johnson Jashawn Johnson 5'11" | 160 lbs | DB Hoffman Estates | 2022 State IL , 5’10, 160, Hoffman Estates, JR
Pull up the tape of this kid, he’s absolutely electric on both sides of the football. Johnson has blazing speed and can make you pay on offense or defense. He can create big plays in the return game and easily has Power Five type ability.
DL: Kevin Frazier Kevin Frazier 6'1" | 240 lbs | DL Brother Rice | 2022 State IL , 6’1, 260, Brother Rice, JR
Frazier recently transferred to Brother Rice this offseason and should be one of their prime recruits. He’s quick to the point of attack and can fight off double teams. He plays with a low pad level and consistently catches offensive linemen lunging at him.
ATH: Devin Miles Devin Miles 5'11" | 175 lbs | ATH Danville | 2021 IL , 5’11, 185, Danville, SR
I think Miles is one of the most fun players to watch in all of Illinois. All he did was score touchdown after touchdown last season and gave defensive coordinators fits. He reminds me of Tavon Austin with the ball in his hands. He’s got two FCS offers at the moment.
TE: Evan King Evan King 6'4" | 225 lbs | TE Tinley Park | 2022 State IL , 6’4, 215, Tinley Park, JR
I think King can play either tight end of outside linebacker at the next level. He’s so athletic for a big man and moves really well in space. He’s got ideal length you look for in a tight end and catches the ball in traffic very well. He could turn into a serious mismatch for opposing teams linebackers.
RB: Trevor Burnett Trevor Burnett 5'10" | 185 lbs | RB Glenbard South | 2022 State IL , 5’8, 180, Glenbard South, JR
Trevor has been on my radar for quite sometime after his Head Coach Ryan Crissey sent me his film. This kid has great wiggle and could make you miss in a phone booth. He’s not afraid to run between the tackles and will split out wide if asked to do so.
