Now they still have your typical rough and tough lineman, but this 2020 season is the “year of the receiver”. Minnesota Gopher star wide-out Rashad Bateman hails from South Georgia, and the region will produce even more playmakers over the next few years.
Here are a few wide receiver players to know in south Georgia for the 2020 season.
Lemeke Brockington Lemeke Brockington 5'11" | 185 lbs | WR Colquitt County | 2021 State GA – Colquitt County – Class of 2021
One of the most electric playmakers in the state, Brockington is an outstanding route runner who is a threat to score whenever he has the ball. He’s a great deep-threat who knows how to get past defensive backs. He doesn’t have elite track speed, but he has enough speed to outrun your average defensive back. His ability to pick up yards after the catch and his overall shiftiness help him stand out amongst other receivers in the state. The 6-foot-0 185-pounder caught 53 passes for 921 yards and 13 touchdowns last season as a junior. He committed to Minnesota over Akron and Cincinnati.
Chauncey Magwood Chauncey Magwood 6'0" | 192 lbs | WR Lee County | 2021 State GA – Lee County – Class of 2021
Lee County (GA) produces big-time prospects on a consistent basis, and this year they have Magwood, a 6-foot-0 190-pound playmaker heading to Kentucky. The future Wildcat has great hands and the ability to make a tough catch in traffic. He’s a decent route runner, but still needs to create separation more consistently. He’s great in the red-zone and can win one-one-one jump balls over less-athletic defensive backs. He has a nice release early on and does a nice job of getting past the defender. Overall, it’s the reliable hands and body control that make him one of the state’s best.
Aalah Brown Aalah Brown 5'11" | 180 lbs | WR Valdosta | 2021 State GA – Valdosta – Class of 2021
There might not be another receiver in South Georgia more ready for the season to start than the 5-foot-11 185-pounder from Valdosta. Brown may not be the fastest guy, but he’s a physical playmaker who is really tough to bring down once he gets going. He’s a longer strider who can pick up yards in a hurry, but he’ll have to work on being more agile and his change of direction. Overall, he’s a productive player who caught 63 passes last year as a junior for 1,261 yards and 9 touchdowns, earning him Firs-team All-Region honors. With elite QB Jake Garcia transferring to Valdosta, look for Brown’s numbers to explode in 2020. He currently holds offers from Georgia Tech, Maryland, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Pittsburgh.
