Multiple Georgia Prospects Make Their Commitment

With the season just around the corner, now is when some of the state’s top prospects decide to make their commitment, putting the stress of their recruitment to an end before their junior or senior seasons. It was a big week across the state for commitments, so here’s a look at a few standout prospects who have made their college decision.   [player_tooltip player_id="33733" first="Javon" last="Bullard"] - Cornerback - Baldwin - Committed to Georgia One of the top overall athletes in middle Georgia, the 6-foot-0 180-pound Milledgeville native will play cornerback on the next level at the University of Georgia. Bullard plays offense, defense, and special teams currently, but his raw talent and natural athleticism should make him a nice project for the Bulldogs over the next few years. He’ll have to work on his cover skills and get used to lining up and defending better receivers, but it’s clear the talent is there for him to develop. He looks like a cornerback, but he plays like a safety. He’s a good tackler, he’s physical, and he can really help coming downhill against the run. He may not be asked to play early at Georgia, but he’ll be a three-star defender to keep an eye on over the next few years.   [player_tooltip player_id="33683" first="Jaquez" last="Smith"] - Athlete - Westlake - Committed to Indiana It’s been a roller coaster of a high school career for Smith, who came onto the recruiting season early on as a freshman. The 6-foot-1 190-pounder started his career at Marietta, then transferred to Hapeville Charter, and will finish his career at Westlake. Smith is a shift wideout with good size who can also turn around and play some defensive back. He’s got reliable hands, he can create separation, and he has experience playing against top competition. He’s an excellent option in the slot, being able to get open quickly in the middle of the field. The Hoosiers don’t earn commitments from too many four-star prospects, so landing Smith was a big deal for the Indiana program. He’ll have a chance to play very early in his career.   [player_tooltip player_id="33724" first="Sirad" last="Bryant"] - Defensive Back - Crisp County - Committed to Georgia Tech Crisp County in south Georgia produces impressive prospects each year, and 2021 is no different. They are home to three-star defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="33724" first="Sirad" last="Bryant"], a versatile 6-foot-1 185-pounder who held offers from Tech, Arkansas, FIU, Akron, among others. As a prospect, Bryant is a playmaking machine with natural athleticism. He’s got good length in his frame, but his instincts and ability to make a play on the ball is what makes him stand out. He shows great hands in pass protection and knows how to delivery a hit to know the ball away. He’s great in coverage, dissects plays well, and has enough size to cover bigger receivers and tight ends. He may not be the biggest or fastest guy, but he certainly has Power 5 talent. Look for him to see the field often in Atlanta down the road.   [player_tooltip player_id="33875" first="Holden" last="Staes"] - Tight End - Westminster School - Committed to Penn State He may only be in the 2022 class, but the Atlanta native has quickly become one of the hottest tight end prospects in the South. After seeing his recruitment blow up this spring, the big 6-foot-4 220-pounder chose Penn State over Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, among others. As a sophomore last fall, the 1st-team All-Region star has reliable hands and knows how to make a tough catch in traffic. He’s not the fastest tight end around, but his ability to make plays in the passing game is one of his strengths. He still needs to work on creating separation on his routes, but his big hands make him a true weapon in the passing game. He is a decent blocker as well and plays until the whistle.
