Under-the-Radar: 2021 Receivers

Over the past few weeks, we’ve highlighted some of our favorite players across the state that haven’t gotten the recognition they deserve. This week, we take a look at a loaded 2021 receiver class to bring you our under-the-radar picks. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28588" first="Sirrandon" last="Brown"], 5’10 160, Mooresville</strong> Brown is one of our favorite receivers in the state. He excels as a route runner, largely due to the fact that he changes speeds remarkably well and starts and stops with ease. In Mooresville’s multiple offense, Brown plays all over the field. As a slot receiver, he often finds himself matched up with safeties or linebackers and controls the middle of the field well. He’s one of the best players in the state without an offer, but he’d be a steal for a Division 2 or FCS school. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28551" first="Songa" last="Yates"], 5’10 165, Vance</strong> Yates is part of one of the most underrated receiver groups in the state, joining fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id="28586" first="Mikhail" last="Baldwin"] and sophomore Kevin Conception. Yates transferred in from North Mecklenburg where he excelled as a kick returner and slot receiver. Yates uses his quickness off the line to put defensive backs on their heels and lives in the middle of the field, scoring on a deep post seemingly every game. Yates received a few offers in the spring, but we expect his stock to rise this season. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28581" first="Kasheim" last="Teller"], 5’11 170, Hoke County</strong> Teller is a multi-positional player that excels everywhere he lines up. His future is on the offensive side of the ball as a receiver with high upside and an excellent ability after the catch. Teller plays bigger than his size indicates and he’s strong enough to fight through press coverage and quick enough to slip away from defenders on in-breaking routes and after the catch. College coaches would be wise to offer Teller because whoever gets him will have a player capable of shredding college defenses. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="28613" first="Ian" last="Hutter"], 5’11 185, Marvin Ridge</strong> Hutter was plagued by a foot injury as a junior, but still put up nearly 700 yards and five touchdowns while starting on both sides of the ball. When healthy, Hutter is one of the best route runners in the state and always seems to be open. He’s versatile enough to play in the slot or outside and can contribute on special teams as well. Hutter is also a standout lacrosse player and excels in the classroom.
