In Weddington's 31-14 victory over Ardrey Kell, several players on both sides of the ball stood out. Let's take a look at them right here:

Weddington - ATH [player_tooltip player_id='260716' first='Brooks' last='Mauk'] - One of the more impressive things about Weddington's performance defensively was consistent penetration and stopping Ardrey Kell before they got started, which Brooks was a big part of. #44 was everywhere everytime a big play needed to be made - one of the biggest plays was in the 4th quarter when Ardrey Kell was attempting to get back into the game, and Mauk applied pressure and ended up forcing a big sack to force Ardrey Kell out of field goal range at the time. Mauk has a lot of college interest and at 6'4 and 215 pounds, should be a highly sought after 2024 recruit.

Ardrey Kell - DL [player_tooltip player_id='147111' first='Khyler' last='Watson'] - Watson is one of my favorite players in the Charlotte Metro Area. In this game he played a lot more nose tackle and defensive tackle, and I felt like he did a good job. He was able to pressure the quarterback on a few plays throughout the game and got a lot of double-team attention from the interior of the Weddington offensive line and rightfully so. Khyler has great size at 6'3 and 250 pounds and has a number of offers he is considering currently as a 2023 recruit.

Weddington - DB [player_tooltip player_id='396915' first='Sam' last='Neely'] - Neely is an interesting 2024 prospect - he stands at 6'0 175 pounds and has an offer from the University of Rhode Island, but he has interest at several area universities. In this game he had a nice interception on a deep shot down the sideline Ardrey Kell took while trying to get back in the game in the 3rd quarter. He also had a nice pass breakup in one on one coverage against Ethan Presutty, an Old Dominion commit who is Ardrey Kell's best wide receiver. I like his game and will be intrigued to see how he continues to progress the rest of this season.

Ardrey Kell - DB [player_tooltip player_id='104093' first='Josh' last='Switzer'] - As per usual, Switzer was all over the field for his defense - in the 4th quarter he had a highlight tackle against a tight end from the Warriors who caught a short pass. Switzer recently committed to Navy and he has some excellent athleticism and speed from the Strong Safety/Rover position. He's a true leader and I expect him to help lead the Ardrey Kell defense to a better overall performance next week.
