Many teams can see their playoff hopes on the horizon while others are left on the other end of victory and left looking from the outside. The student athletes listed below have been stellar and have played well and beyond many expectations. They all collectively have played huge roles in their team success and personally have improved their individual recruiting stocks.
STOCK UP PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Anthony Hill Anthony Hill 6'2" | 225 lbs | LB Denton Ryan | 2023 State TX – Denton Ryan – Class of 2023
Anthony is pound for pound one of the best players in the nation and one of if not the best defender in his class. He does everything well that you want to see out of a linebacker and he can rush the passer. Despite not bringing home the win the superlative defender still put on a show this past week versus Centennial. He covered sideline to sideline, was solid in coverage when isolated and contributed in every aspect of the game. He recently pledged his commitment to Texas A&M and will need to show up and play big again as his squad looks to bounce back versus a solid Aledo squad.

Derek (DJ) Lagway Derek (DJ) Lagway 6'3" | 215 lbs | QB Willis | 2024 State TX – Willis High – Class of 2024
DJ is a dynamic prospect with elite arm talent, great awareness and good presence and patience in the pocket. He wows you with some of the things that he can do athletically to extend plays with his legs but he has the arm strength to zip the ball anywhere on the field. He has been on fire all year since his breakout performance in week two where he went 21/27 passing for 6 touchdowns, 356 yards through the air, 63 rushing yards and one touchdown. Now week 8 he has not one but three receivers leading 6A with 7 touchdowns a piece! For context, verses College Park he went 26/29 for 350 yards to go along with 5 touchdowns and with how well his offensive line has been protecting him I can’t expect his production to slip anytime soon. The superlative field general has scholarship offers from virtually everyone in America and is scheduled to take a visit to check out Dabo Sweeney and the Clemson Tigers.

John Williams – Millsap High – Class of 2024
John is a 6’6 280 pound prospect out of Millsap Texas that played big in week 8 and was very impressive in his teams 38-12 decisive victory over Dublin. He is a lean prospect with a long frame, above average redirection skills, and a mindset to finish. He did a great job gaining hand control and straining to finish his guy with a pancake on a consistent basis. I look forward to seeing how he performs next week versus a struggling Eastland High.

Legend Howell Legend Howell 6'2" | 170 lbs | QB Desoto | 2026 State TX – Bishop Lynch – Class of 2026
Legend is a 6’1 185 pound freshman Quarterback out of Dallas, Texas. He holds a 4.0 GPA that has played at a high level and put up some very respectable stats in his first season at the varsity level. He is decisive, patient, has a very strong arm and does a good job dealing in their offense while taking care of the football. Despite his team slower start he has been a bright spot and is setting himself up for a successful sophomore campaign. He has moved the ball down the field well and and showed flashes of being able to wheel and deal and step up in the pocket while under pressure.

Lucas Barrientes – Midland Legacy – Class of 2024
Lucas is a 6’3 260 pound road grader that has has been a breakout performer this season and played a huge role in his team’s run game success thus far. This past week versus Permian he had one of his best games and zeroed out his opponent for most of the night. He did a great job when matched up one on one in pass pro situations and has visually improved his pass pro posture and punch landmarks. As you’ll see in his film below his technique has been a strength and he will need to continue to play big this next week as his squad takes on a solid San Angelo Central squad.
