The season is in full swing and as we move forward, the best way to be highlighted is ball out and tag me. I do my best but ultimately can only do so much. Now, let’s dive into week 2 stars!
Damon Sturm Damon Sturm 5'11" | 180 lbs | RB Terre Haute North | 2023 State IN – Terre Haute North Vigo – RB – 5’11” 180lbs – 2023
Yes, I know, he’s back on the list for a second week in a row, but it’s for good reason. He only played one half of football on Friday and had 243 rushing yards and 2 TDs. He broke an 86-yarder where he showed every tool in the box. Speed, vision, and the ability to break tackles. He’s one of the best RBs in the state and he’s like clockwork. You know when he steps on the field, he’s going to tote the rock. Week 2 has come and gone, and Sturm took 299 total yards in the first half with him.
Dustin Kostrzewski – Monrovia – RB – 6’1″ 185lbs – 2023
Kostrzewski had a fantastic performance on Friday that put him on the map. Coming out of a wing T offense the lanes and creativity can be there if you have the right guy hitting the holes. Friday, Kostrzewski saw the field as well as anyone and was gashing the defense early and often. He finished the night with 201 rushing yards and found the endzone as well. He was able to get the edge time and time again with his speed. He was able to make some guys miss and hit the open field. He also had 2 tackles and an interception on defense. An overall fantastic performance that needed to get some love.
Jack Kazmierczak – Carmel – QB – 6’0″ 186lbs – 2023
Kazmierczak had as good of a performance as you can ask for early in the season. He’s confident, sees the field well, and isn’t afraid to let it rip. He was able to take the offense up and down the field on Friday with ease. He ended the night with 363 passing yards, which set the school record. He found the endzone 3 times as well and completed 67% of his throws. As efficient and dynamic as he was, it felt like they could have put more down on Center Grove if they wanted to. Either way, an elite performance for Carmel’s new single-game passing record holder.
Corey Smith Corey Smith 6'2" | 160 lbs | WR Brownsburg | 2024 State IN – Brownsburg – WR – 6’1″ 175lbs – 2023
Smith is one of the better receivers with elite speed in the 2023 class. Some schools have already found him and fell in love, but with more performances like the one on Friday, I don’t think it’ll be long until he’s on even more boards. Smith has speed that can kill. He’s able to get behind the defense in a flash and once he’s gone, he’s gone. He hit the homerun early on Friday night and was gone. He’s got a lengthy frame and can win jump balls downfield as well. However, hit him in stride and good things happen.
Alijah Price Alijah Price 5'7" | 165 lbs | RB Ben Davis | 2025 State IN – Ben Davis – RB – 5’6″ 165lbs – 2025
Price is someone we highlighted this summer as a breakout candidate based on his raw abilities. To start the season, he hasn’t disappointed. He’s come out and lit the defenses on fire and put his name on the map right away. He found his confidence early and the speed always translates. He ripped off 2 huge long TD runs and broke multiple tackles on the way to the end zone both times. He finished the night with 135-yards and 2 TDs. A young player developing on the fly while lighting it up at Ben Davis usually means they’re going to be special.
Cole Ballard – Westfield – QB – 6’2″ 210lbs – 2023
Ballard had an elite performance under some of the brightest lights in the state. Not only was he efficient, but he was also dynamic, and then added some help on the ground with his legs. He was able to make some big-time throws as well. He stood tall even when the pocket was collapsing and delivered the ball with accuracy. He finished the night with 202 passing yards, 72-yards on the ground, and then 5 total touchdowns. He’s come out this fall and lit it up through 2 weeks and last week was one of the more impressive performances you’ll see in quite some time.
