What team is unexpected to make a playoff run? Always remember the teams that have a lot returning. Always remember the team who got put out in the first round, but they were young lacking depth. Here are a few teams you need to look out for.
Clinton
LAST YEAR’S RECORD: 6-5, Lost to Southaven in the first round of the playoffs.
Clinton is returning a team that everybody should look out for. These guys have bonded together and they aren’t pleased with last year’s results. Coach Boswell knows what it takes to win the big game. He did so six seasons ago with Cam Akers having an amazing senior season. The Arrows have a tenacious group of defensive lineman coming back. Coleman, who is a part of their secondary, has started to get a lot of attention. Their offense has a lot of weapons and you can expect them to be spreading out the ball a lot more this year. The district they play in is in my opinion, the most competitive district in the whole state. Not just 6A. It is going to be interesting to watch their season unfold this year.
South Panola
LAST YEAR’S RECORD: 8-3, Lost to Oxford in the first round of the playoffs.
South Panola has a long tradition of being the top dogs. They have been known to be the guys to watch out for all the time. Their last state championship came in 2014. After their five year championship run they never went five years without winning a championship since 1998-2003. It has been seven years now since their last gold ball. South Panola is hungry and they will be returning a very experienced team. They have one of the best RBs duo MS has to offer. DMariun Perteet and Juju Pope will be making a lot of things happen out of the backfield. Their defense is going to be full of energy. Trell Chapman and Marcus House are some names to keep up with on that side of the ball. They know how to win championships around the Batesville area. That’s the only thing they expect every season. With their new head coach they should do some big things. He is bringing championship experience to the Tigers. He led Senatobia to a runner up season last year in 4A.
Pascagoula
LAST YEAR’S RECORD: 4-7, failed to make the playoffs.
This probably is a shock to a lot of people. Hear me out. These guys have a load of talent that is going to hit the gridiron this year. Their QB is a 2025 guy who is also a great musician. He is going to have to hit all his notes on the field this year to make sure Pascagoula can get to the playoffs. Isaiah Benn Isaiah Benn 6'1" | 215 lbs | RB Pascagoula | 2023 MS will be back toting the rock for them and he is going to light the field up every time he touches it. Having that balance on offense is what they need to make some things happen this year. On defense they will be led by Jeffrey Rush. His presence will allow them to do a lot of tricky things on that side of the ball. It will open up the the playbook for their defensive coordinator. Especially if their LBs and DBs can step up to the plate. Don’t let these Pascagoula guys surprise yall too much this season. It should be a good season for them.
