An impressive athlete from Rochester, Tull the standout defensive tackle for Aquinas has the type of body that in a college weight room can add legit strength and size. Tull has burst off the snap and is an explosive athlete, he plays with a high-motor and finishes plays with violence. Tull has active hands and does a good job of shedding blocks effectively. Tull does a good job of getting his eyes in the backfield and plays the game the right way in a sense that he will maintain his gap responsibilities, use his eyes and patience to make plays at or 1-3 yards past the LOS, instead of striking through gaps just to get in the backfield losing control of his gap. Getting bigger and stronger will be the key for Tull at the next level and Lock Haven has the change to unlock some serious untapped potential in an already impressive athlete in Tull.

has great size and strength and has some of the best physical traits in Western New York. Tull has a great upper body in terms of length and strength and can control initial engagements at the LOS using that length and power. Tull does a good job of shedding off blocks and getting his hands on runners through the hole. Tull has really good gap integrity as a defender and does a great job of being patient and making the right plays to help limit opponents run game. Tull could take a strong step forward as a pass rusher but the tools to be successful are there, it is the consistency and opportunity to rep pass rush in game consistently which will showcase his overall skillset this fall.

If you want to talk about a strong football player that is relentless at battling in the trenches, then you have found it here with Rodney Tull at Aquinas Institute High School. Tull is a senior DT that has high bars that he has set for himself to reach this upcoming season. Some of those high bars include having as many sacks as TFLs and receiving his first collegiate offer playing the game he loves. Rodney has been playing at the varsity level for two years now and informed me that he earned the most improved player on his team in 2022 by the Aquinas coaching staff.
When it comes to Tull’s natural talent at the DT position, that athleticism and complete motor to pursue at 100% was a complete stand-out. Consistently attacking, and pushing the interior linemen backwards was a major plus in Rodney’s game. This is a DT that has no problems playing at the 1, 2, 3, and even 4 techniques. The other huge stand out was how active and strong Tull’s hands were when rushing the passer. Being able to play with leverage at the point of attack, and grant the major push really allowed him to be effective in both run/pass situations.
Speaking of playing against the run, Rodney did an awesome job throughout this year of holding his ground and closing the gaps quickly on the backs hitting into the open holes. Many times, Tull was able to shed right off his block and just barely get enough on the RB to bring him to the ground. There is a tremendous amount of lateral agility for a player of his size standing at 6’4”, 246-pounds, that it was a treasure to see on tape. This is one special player that I highly recommend checking out, and I cannot wait to see play in person come 2023.
