About Yalik
Expert Analysis
Chad Graham | Prep Redzone Scout
Overview: Carter is an aggressive defender on the backend, whether he’s making a play on the ball or coming up to lay the wood. He mostly lines up at corner, excelling in off-man or cover 3. Seeing his man and the QB, he’s able to flip his hips and track the ball in the air or back pedal then break on the ball. As a tackler, Carter is eager to disengage from blocks out wide or fill the alley. Because of his size and ball skills, his highest upside is as a Safety who can play Free or Strong depending on what the defense calls for. His tools and skillset translate to being a Cover 3 Corner at Temple as well.

‘s game as a cornerback. He’s a true ball hawk, and several interceptions prove that in his highlights (including a couple of pick-sixes). Carter does a great job of reading the quarterback well. His instincts as a defensive back are impressive. Carter has excellent timing and patience in coverage. When it’s time to break on the ball, he’s quick about it.
Carter’s versatility makes him a very attractive prospect to college coaches. He looks comfortable in both zone and man coverage. He shows good awareness in zone coverage, gains depth quickly, and reacts quickly to route combinations. He left a hitch route on one play and jumped the seam to pick off a pass. Carter can also disguise coverage well. In the few plays of his in man coverage that I watched, Carter plays with short-area twitch and quick feet. It’s worth noting that he is also physical in running defense. Carter has no problem coming downhill to make tackles in the flat or against the run. One of the better plays on his highlights shows him hustling at least 20-25 yards downfield to make a tackle.
Carter is smart, aggressive, and fast. I like the energy he shows on film and his instincts and toughness.

Carter really shinned on the defensive side of the ball at corner last season but contributed at receiver too. Defensively he had 9 pass break ups, 1 forced fumble, and 27 tackles. He stays in tight coverage whether its man to man or zone coverage, he stays in position to be able to get a hand on the ball. Offensively Appoquinimink used him in the screen game a lot, showing that they trust him to make a play with the ball in his hands. Carter has a solid frame already at 190 pounds and has already caught the eye of a couple D1 programs; he’s landed 2 offers from Akron University, and Boston College.

‘s name is known throughout the East coast. He has a ways to go, both in fieldwork development and notoriety. There’s no doubt that this young pass catcher has all the tools necessary to place as the top wideout in his class, his talent ceiling is that high. That being said, what’s his ceiling outside of Pennsylvania? After talking to those in the know, I expect Carter to be a popular name amongst some of the more prestigious HS programs in the state. I can’t help but be excited at Carter’s potential under the umbrella of proven coaching staffs.
