This move allows them to offer more scholarships, and it will be needed as they will face tougher competition. ODU has been very active in recruiting from within the state and the surrounding areas, and here are some of the talented athletes from the DMV who have received an offer from the Old Dominion coaching staff over the past month.
Carmelo Taylor | 6’ 155lb | Wide Receiver | Patrick Henry High School (Va) | Class of 2023
Taylor was named 1st Team All Region, 2nd Team All RRD as a Wide Receiver, and Honorable Mention All RRD Offensive Specialist. The speedy Patrick Henry HS athlete has also been dominant on the track this past spring and summer. He won the 5A State Championship in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash, running 10.56 seconds and 21.34 seconds respectively. He also won the Regional Championship during the indoor track season in the 55 meter (6.48) and 300 meter. Along with his offer from Old Dominion, he also holds offers from Maryland, East Carolina, West Virginia, Penn State, South Carolina, Liberty, and Virginia Tech.

Johnson earned an offer from the ODU coaching staff during the past month, and also has offers from Ole Miss, Penn State, Miami of Ohio and Virginia Tech. The Highland Spring’s Linebacker, who is a 4.3 GPA student, earned Third Team All Region Linebacker honors as a freshmen. As he grows, his recruiting will continue to also grow with a program like Highland Springs, who is one of the most dominant programs in the state.
