At the high school level, the state of Georgia has consistently produced some of the top college football and NFL quarterbacks over the last few years. The peach state is loaded once again in the 2021 class, and Prep Red-Zone breaks down the state’s top 5 senior signal callers.
Brock Vandagriff Brock Vandagriff 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 State GA – Prince Avenue Christian (Committed to Georgia)
The state’s top-ranked quarterback in the 2021 class, Brock Vandagriff Brock Vandagriff 6'3" | 200 lbs | QB Prince Avenue Christian School | 2021 State GA is a big 6-foot-3 205-pounder from Athens with great arm talent and mobility. In just 8 games last season as a junior, the future Georgia Bulldog was 151/211 for 2,471 yards and 31 touchdowns compared to just three INTs. He plays in a pass-happy offense at Prince Avenue, giving him the chance to show off his big arm and push the ball down the field.
Vandagriff also rushed for over 260 yards and three touchdowns. As a sophomore, Vandagriff rushed for over 1,000 yards and 23 touchdowns, proving he’s a true dual-threat quarterback who can play in multiple offensive systems.
Carlos Del Rio Carlos Del Rio 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Grayson | 2021 State GA – Grayson (Committed to Florida)
Like Vandagriff, Del Rio is a peach-state gunslinger who is thought of as one of the nation’s best in the 2021 class. Del Rio came onto the recruiting scene early on after some early success at McEachern, but now the 6-foot-3 215-pounder will suit up for the powerhouse Grayson Rams this fall. Del Rio has a strong arm, and likely Vandagriff, he’s a threat running the football. Del Rio committed to play at Florida back in July of 2019.
Aaron McLaughlin Aaron McLaughlin 6'5" | 210 lbs | QB Denmark | 2021 State GA – Denmark (Committed to North Carolina State)
One of the bigger-bodied QBs in the state, McLaughlin is a multi-year starter who started his career at powerhouse Buford as a freshman. Three short years later, McLaughlin, who stands at 6-foot-5 and 2020-pounds, is now hoping to lead a young Denmark program to its first state championship. In 10 games last season, McLaughlin threw for just over 2,000 yards and 17 touchdowns.
As a player, McLaughlin has a big arm and throws the ball well down the field. He’s smart, experienced, and has the size to play right now at the college level. His footwork and mechanics have come a long way, and he is expected to have a giant senior season this fall.
Colten Gauthier Colten Gauthier 6'3" | 205 lbs | QB Hebron Christian Academy | 2021 State GA – Hebron Christian Academy (Committed to South Carolina)
Another SEC commitment, Gauthier is a Dacula native and one of the most accurate passers in the peach state. He’s got some size on him at 6-foot-3 205-pounds, but his footwork and athleticism really stand out of film. He can push the ball down the field, and he does a nice job of hitting guys on the run. He escapes the pocket well and has the pocket awareness that allows him to extend plays while keeping his eyes down the field.
Gauthier committed to South Carolina in March of 2020 over Florida State, Arkansas, Colorado, among others. As a junior last fall, Gauthier was 143/252 for 2,401 yards and 20 passing touchdowns.
