Many of Louisiana’s top student-athletes close out their school year at the outdoor state championships. Dozens of football standouts represented their schools at Bernie Moore Track Stadium. And these 20 were among the best — with particular nods to state champions, record-setting performances and high finishes in multiple events. Kendrick Alexander — 5-11, 160 DL — Cecilia (2023) Alexander won the Class 4A boys’ shot-put title with a throw of 51-08.5. [player_tooltip player_id="291097" first="Harlem" last="Berry"] — 5-11, 160 RB — St. Martin’s (2025) The freshman showcased the speed that helped make him one of the state’s most productive running backs this fall. Berry won both the Class 1A boys’ 100-meter and 200-meter dashes with times of 11.00 seconds and 22.12 seconds, respectively. [player_tooltip player_id="138440" first="Harvey" last="Broussard"] — 6-4, 180 WR — St. Martinville (2023) The long, lean pass-catcher and basketball standout has been highly ranked by Prep Redzone Louisiana for the past year and a half since the light appeared to click of the type of ceiling he possessed on the football field. Broussard earned all-state consideration in both sports and put his athleticism on display once again this track season with top-six finishes in the Class 3A high jump, long jump and triple jump. His 44-04.75 triple jump marked his best finish at No. 2 in the class. [player_tooltip player_id="276217" first="Hayden" last="Christman"] — 6-7, 300 OL — Tioga (2023) ULM, Louisiana Tech and Nicholls State recently became the first college football programs to offer the under-the-radar, but rising offensive line prospect. Christman capped his junior year by winning the Class 4A discus (162-03) and finishing second in the shot-put (50-01.25). The scores helped Tioga finish as state runner-up in the team standings. Ra’hji Dennis — 6-0, 155 WR — Edna Karr (2024) College football programs, such as Mississippi State and Grambling State, have already started taking notice of the young track star’s elite speed. Dennis won the Class 4A boys’ 200-meter dash (21.31 seconds), finished second in the 100-meter (10.69 seconds) and ran legs of the first-place 4x100-meter relay (41.33 seconds) and second-place 4x200-meter relay (1:25.85). [player_tooltip player_id="136525" first="Jordan" last="Doucet"] — 5-9, 150 WR — Westgate (2022) The state championship quarterback and Offensive MVP of Class 4A this fall capped off a hell of a senior year as a leader on his Tigers’ outdoor track and field state title. Doucet won the long jump (22-02.35) and ran the first leg of the winning 4x200-meter relay (1:26.52) and the runner-up 4x100-meter (41.80 seconds) and 4x400-meter (3:27.37) relays. Leon Ellie — 5-8, 170 WR — Warren Easton (2022) "Cheetah" put his sprinting speed on display one last time for his Eagles with a the title in the Class 4A boys’ 100-meter dash (10.68 seconds) and running a leg of the third-place 4x100-meter relay (42.22 seconds). [player_tooltip player_id="138456" first="Tristan" last="Goodly"] — 6-0, 150 WR — Westlake (2023) The athletic multisport standout wrapped up junior year with a state championship in the Class 3A boys’ triple jump (48-07.25) and runner-up showing in the long jump (22-5). [player_tooltip player_id="136636" first="BJ" last="Green"] — 5-9, 165 DB — Ruston (2022) The Oklahoma-bound — and one-time LSU committed — athlete was a heck of a high school cornerback with definite college potential, but is also one of the nation’s top track stars and showed his prowess once again in Baton Rouge. Green won the Class 5A boys’ long jump (24-02.25) and triple jump (49-01.00), finished second in the 300-meter hurdles (37.93 seconds) and ran a leg of the second-place 4x100-meter relay (41.47 seconds). The scores helped the Bearcats finish second in Class 5A. [player_tooltip player_id="136563" first="Javin" last="Griffin"] — 6-3, 270 OL — St. Martinville (2022) The Tigers’ big offensive lineman won both the Class 3A discus (153-02) and shot-put (53-01) state titles to help the team finish second overall in the class. [player_tooltip player_id="275579" first="Justin" last="Horne"] — 6-1, 210 LB — John Curtis (2023) The quick, athletic linebacker lived up to his billing as one of the state’s top track standouts with a first-place 110-meter hurdles (14.06 seconds) and third-place 300-meter hurdles (38.25 seconds). Krosse Johnson — 5-9, 150 WR — Holy Cross (2024) The fastest sprinter in the state should give his Tigers a special deep threat the next two falls. He capped his sophomore year with gold in the Class 5A 100-meter (10.54 seconds) and 200-meter (21.07 seconds) dashes and helping lead another victory in the 4x100-meter relay (41.27 seconds). [player_tooltip player_id="136463" first="Jack" last="Larriviere"] — 6-2, 210 QB — Jesuit (2022) The state runner-up quarterback picked up a javelin for the first time just a few months ago and wrapped up his high school career as a state champion and record-setter in the event with a throw of 228 feet, 10 inches. [player_tooltip player_id="138307" first="Jordan" last="Matthews"] — 6-2, 175 DB — Woodlawn (Baton Rouge) (2023) The highly touted cornerback looks as big, strong and fast as ever this spring, including three of the fastest times in school history this spring in his sprinting events. Matthews finished second in the Class 5A boys’ 200-meter dash (21.29 seconds), fourth in the 100-meter dash (10.66 seconds) and ran a leg of the third-place 4x100-meter relay (41.58 seconds). Micah Miller — 6-0, 235 OL — Lafayette Christian (2022) The Knights’ offensive lineman added a couple more state championships to his résumé with the Class 2A boys’ shot-put and (48-11.50) and discus (170-03.00) crowns. DQuinton Robertson — 6-1, 165 WR — Mansfield (2022) Robertson helped the Wolverines win the Class 3A boys’ team championship with his first-place showing in the long jump (22-08). [player_tooltip player_id="187021" first="CamRon" last="Spencer"] — 6-2, 180 DB — Westgate (2022) Spencer ran legs of the Tigers’ 4x200-meter (1:25.78) and 4x100-meter (41.54 seconds) relay teams that finished first and second, respectively, and finished second in the 200-meter (21.55 seconds) and third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.86 seconds) for the Class 4A state champions. Marquez Stevenson — ATH — Captain Shreve (2023) "Macho" won the Class 5A boys’ 400-meter race (47.18 seconds) and finished second in the 100-meter dash (10.59 seconds). [player_tooltip player_id="144873" first="Preston" last="Welch"] — 6-2, 185 QB — Teurlings Catholic (2024) Similar to Larriviere, the younger quarterback had an impressive outdoor season in just his first months of throwing a javelin. He finished the Class 4A boys’ meet with a fourth-place throw of 159-07. Johnny Woods — 5-9, 150 WR — Wossman (2023) The Wildcats’ receiver was among the top performers in Class 3A running a first-place 100-meter dash (10.7 seconds), second-place 200-meter dash (21.59 seconds) and the first leg of the second-place 4x100-meter (42.65 seconds) and 4x200-meter (1:27.66) relays.
