Andre Alvarado Andre Alvarado 6'1" | 245 lbs | DL Hobbs | 2023 State NM , Hobbs: We recently featured Alvarado in our ‘Winning the Offseason’ series, and for good reason. He’s been a stud in the weight room and on the camp circuit. He opened eyes at a prestigious lineman camp in Denver a few weeks ago. Essentially, Alvarado has made himself into one of the top DLs in the state. Sul Ross State in Texas has offered. FCS Valparaiso and Western New Mexico are showing interest.
Adrian Anaya Adrian Anaya 5'10" | 170 lbs | DB Roswell | 2023 State NM , Roswell: Eastern New Mexico has expressed interest in the rising defensive back. Roswell is one of the state’s top programs, especially in Class 5A. We expect Anaya to have a big senior season for the Coyotes and play at the next level.
Kaden Bell Kaden Bell 5'10" | 150 lbs | K Los Lunas | 2023 State NM , Los Lunas: We don’t usually have many kickers in our rankings but Bell is deserving of the honor. He calmly booted a 32-yard field goal in the closing minutes to give the Tigers a hard-fought victory over Goddard last fall. He also booms kickoffs (62.4 yard average) and punts (36.7 yard average).
Peyton Harrison Peyton Harrison 6'0" | 195 lbs | LB Cibola | 2023 State NM , Cibola: Cibola will have one of the top linebacker duos in Albuquerque next season with Harrison and Caden Lowry Caden Lowry 5'10" | 160 lbs | LB Cibola | 2023 State NM (63 tackles in 2021) patrolling the second level of the Cougars’ defense. Harrison had 28 tackles ad 1 sack in just 5 games in 2021. If he stays healthy, Harrison could enjoy a big season. Considering how explosive the Cibola offense should be in 2022, all Harrison and the Cougars’ defense needs to do is hold their own.
Brendan Johnson Brendan Johnson 6'3" | 215 lbs | DL Eldorado | 2023 State NM , Eldorado: Johnson proved disruptive in 2021 with 6 sacks (out of 22 tackles), 2 fumble recoveries and 2 blocked kicks. He was a reliable pass rusher off the edge for the Eagles. He definitely has the size (6-3, 215 pounds) and skills to play at the next level. Western New Mexico has expressed interest.
Zach Martinez Zach Martinez 6'0" | 175 lbs | QB St. Michael's | 2023 State NM , St. Michael’s: When starting QB Lucas Coriz Lucas Coriz 6'2" | QB St. Michael's | 2022 State NM suffered a season-ending injury early in 2021, most folks probably wrote the Horsemen off. After going through multiple quarterback, St. Michael’s settled on Martinez and all he did was lead them to a Top 4 seed and into the Class 3A state championship game. Martinez avoided mistakes, which is one of the most important traits of a winning QB.
Josiah Martinez Ortiz, Rio Rancho: Ortiz is a rising linebacker for the Rams and should play a major role for the Rio Rancho defense in 2022. After losing their head coach, QB and RB, there are some questions surrounding the rams going into the 2022 season. Ortiz will help provide some of the answers.
Elijah Romero Elijah Romero 5'9" | 165 lbs | WR Belen | 2023 State NM , Belen: A wide receiver playing in Belen’s run-dominated attack, Romero showed flashes of his potential last season with a team-high 12 receptions for 260 yards and 5 TD. In short, nearly half of his receptions resulted in touchdowns as Romero emerged as a reliable red zone weapon. Romero weighs 165 pounds but benches 225 pounds. Good strength.
Cole Runyan Cole Runyan 6'4" | 190 lbs | DB Centennial | 2023 State NM , Centennial: Possessing great size (6-4, 190 pounds), Runyan is a classic OLB/Nickel at the next level. And he will certainly get an opportunity to play college football. Western New Mexico has expressed interest and he attended New Mexico State’s spring game. Don’t be surprised if the Aggies offer him at least a PWO opportunity. He was First-Team All-District and Second-Team All-State performer in 2021.
Devyn Woods Devyn Woods 5'10" | 185 lbs | LB Centennial | 2023 State NM , Centennial: Woods was quietly one of the top linebackers in southern New Mexico last season and certainly a key figure in Centennial’s drive to a district championship. Woods and 2024 standout John Sierra John Sierra 6'2" | 210 lbs | LB Centennial | 2024 State NM will form a stellar duo at the linebacker spot for the Hawks. Don’t sleep on Centennial. They’ve got the talent to compete for a top four seed and make a deep run in the Class 6A playoffs.
