Continue ReadingThe Palmetto Combine Series will hold the third and final portion of its three-part evaluation window at Summerville on May 7.
The event will help determine spots selections for the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl and the Joanne Langfitt Junior Showcase. (It is still not known if the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas will draw from this combine.)
The talent pool is vast, and some of the bigger names – especially along the coast – have already committed to attend. Here are five seniors who we believe could use the combine to its fullest extent.
Marcus Adams Marcus Adams 6'5" | 235 lbs | TE James Island Charter | 2023 State SC , TE, James Island
Amid a small group of mostly bigger tight ends, Adams will have every opportunity to push himself to the top of the pack. The one-time Oceanside Collegiate offensive lineman transferred to James Island prior to last season, caught 20 passes for 366 yards and two scores in his first year at his new position and could be among the best pass catchers in the Charleston area come next fall.
Zolten Osborne Zolten Osborne 6'2" | 205 lbs | QB Fort Dorchester | 2023 State SC , QB, Fort Dorchester
Osborne is one of the best quarterbacks in the entire state. But what he doesn’t have a lot of is combine and camp experience. He lost some of that with the pandemic and had some scheduling conflicts with others. But he’s was invited to an Elite 11 regional and now the PCS. The five-route drills and one-on-one sessions for quarterbacks should create some serious traction for his summer and senior year.
Colton Phares, DB, Beaufort
Phares had a strong 2021 football season, finishing with 71 tackles, six tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and an interception. He then followed it up by working his way up to the No. 1 state ranking in the 182-pound category in wrestling and finished as the runner-up in the state individual tournament. That fire to be the best will translate in the combine and beyond, too.
LaNorris Sellers LaNorris Sellers 6'3" | 215 lbs | QB South Florence | 2023 State SC , QB, South Florence
By now, the cat’s out of the bag on the Syracuse commitment. Sellers (pictured) has got a fantastic arm, great decision-making ability and above-average speed. But what he doesn’t have a ton of lately is anything resembling live reps. After missing most of last year with an injury, coaches, teammates and fans are champing at the bit to see Sellers compete again.
Wade White Wade White 6'4" | 225 lbs | OL Myrtle Beach | 2023 State SC , OL, Myrtle Beach
White is still on the lighter side for a major prospect at left tackle – he’s still chiming in at south of 240 pounds. But the 6-foot-3 lineman is a solid enough athlete to find a landing spot. He’s already shown he can succeed in a combine. In December, during the inaugural Joanne Langfitt, he was more than half-second ahead of the next fastest offensive lineman in the 40-yard dash. He also led the positional group with 16 reps on the bench.
