Perhaps one of the most interesting and competitive regions in the entire state, Region 2 within 7A football is chalk full of talent, in which college programs are in constant supply of as the years go by. Because of this, it makes for awesome competition, as well as stellar inter-region play, that boasts some of the best talent that the state has to offer. While some of the programs listed above may not be as big in name compared to other regions, they tend to produce wins, and prospects as good as anywhere else in the country. Below, if you happen to take a look, we doubt that you will be disappointed. Campbell- Tywon Wray (DB) Tywon is not only our top pick out of the returning players for Cambell next season, but we also believe that he will make his team's secondary better by simply taking the field with them. Not only does Tywon play with a long frame, but last year alone, he managed to accumulate 37 solo tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 6 deflected passes, and and 2 interceptions. This not only comes from his long frame, but his ability to play in space, and shadow receivers effectively. In addition to this, while he is a bit raw in the way he changes direction and flips his hips at times, we believe that he has the ability to be a shutdown corner next year if he continues to work on his technique. If Tywon can continue to progress in his craft, we see no reason why he can't help his team win more games in 2022. Carrollton- Jordan Cardentey (OL) The 2024 prospect Jordan Cardentey has already proven to be a huge asset to his team’s offense at Carrolton High. Not only is he an efficient interior linemen, but he has gained the nickname "Super" along the way. Cardentey plays good ball, as he not only fires out of his stance with good leverage, but he is great is transmitting his lower body power into his arms and hands when he makes contact and moves defenders. Cardentey also plays at a good base, and proves to have strengths in run blocking. This does not mean that he is not efficient in pass pro, as he also has the athleticism and ability to adjust efficiently as well. East Coweta- [player_tooltip player_id="34036" first="Aaron" last="Fenimore"] (OL) In recent years, East Coweta has been competing at a higher level than they have been previously known for. Not only have they been making runs at the playoffs, but talent such as [player_tooltip player_id="34036" first="Aaron" last="Fenimore"] has made a difference for the team within games, as well as in the ways that fans and other teams view them statewide. While Fenimore does not have any stars in his prospective ranking, he does have about 13 offers from teams across the country, including power 5 teams. Because of this, it is only right that we explain why. Not only is he a wide bodied interior linemen, but he plays with decent base, and power from his upper body. He maneuvers his blocks very well, and he creates holes for his RB more efficiently that most guards in the state. In addition to this, he has decent footwork, and speed for his age, and size. This will not only help the Indians offense in every way possible, but it will only make him better for his future within the college football ranks. Osborne- Khalif Walters (RB) Despite Osborne's 1-9 losing record last year, the Cardinals still have their fair share of talent to look forward to going into next season. Osborne will be returning Khalif Walters, who may have a bit of a smaller frame, but produces at a very high rate for his team. During his junior year, he not only showed that he can catch out of the backfield and create match up problems for the opposing team, but he showed that his straight line running style was fast enough to split defenders, and take the ball all the way. With this, Walters also proved to have a small bit of twitch, with the ability to turn the corner, and gain quick yards on the ground. In 2022, look for Walters to be a big part of his team's offensive production, as he will be one of the harder players on their roster to stop when matching up with the top teams in the region. Pebblebrook- Qamar Grant (QB) Not only did Qamar Grant lead his team to a 9-2-1 record last season, but he was able to bring his team to the playoffs, winning 1 game until losing to the eventual state champions, Collins Hill. Regardless, he had a great season, and we fully expect him to not only be the best player on his team next season, but to be able to help lift the Falcons to the playoffs as well. Currently, Grant does not have too much recruiting activity, but his ability on the field to win football games has been plenty enough for his team. Last year, Grant had some slight efficiency on the ground, but was more of a threat in the air. By the end of the year, he averaged around 227 yards a game, and 16.2 yards a pass. In addition to this, he threw for 30 TD’s, and around 2,500 yards. Needless to say, if Grant can continue to produce at this level, opposing defenses within the region have plenty of reasons to be worried. Westlake- [player_tooltip player_id="34007" first="Avieon" last="Terrell"] (DB) It should come as no shocker that the 4 star prospect [player_tooltip player_id="34007" first="Avieon" last="Terrell"] is our top returning player for Westlake going into next season. Not only is he the blood brother of AJ Terrell, who plays for the Atlanta Falcons, but he has shown the ability to play the CB position at a very high level since he was a Freshman, and Sophomore. Since then, he has seen a high amount of snaps on defense, and his movement skills, speed, and footwork have only continued to grow more silky smooth over the years. Terrell plays with little wasted movement, and he shadows opposing players well, making it easy for him to position himself to make good pass break ups, and turnovers when it warrants itself. Due to his lockdown ability, we fully expect him to be back in the saddle as Westlake’s best player/defensive player next season.
